This obsession with “street-cred” reaches its apex of absurdity as hipsters have recently and wholeheartedly adopted the fixed-gear bike as the only acceptable form of transportation – only to have brakes installed on a piece of machinery that is defined by its lack thereof.

So the only way to make things interesting is by the total destruction of the internet to allowing regional music/fashion/art scenes to breath and develop, right?

possibly, except people don't interact in the real world the same way they do on the internet.
How many of us would bother to start a conversation in a room full of people we'd never met, or in the street, or on a bus? The world is full of apathy, switching on a computer and logging onto the internet is easy, and society likes easy.

It's actually defined by it's drivetrain, (the clue being the name) not the option of braking mechanisms. And in fact the hipsters are more likely to be brakeless.

Hey dudes, what colour should I powdercoat my new NoBrake bike?

"you all" meaning everyone on this thread, or this forum? including you?

I very much doubt, if you knew me, that you'd think I was any kind of hipster.

Ahh, so the lack of mass interaction will get things good again? Right! I'm off the burn my BT wireless router!

but I don't want to live in haslemere (wft?) richmond or barnes, I want to live near to HH velodrome and Brixton BMX track and I am poor so don't have a lot of choice when it comes to where to rent a flat.

Richmond is nice, but it's not really London, is it...

you give me £2000 a month and I'll go live in richmond, how's that?

I'm from a time when the Moon Under Water in Balham was the 'safest' (not saying much though) pub to go drinking in in Balham.

Went back not so long ago and it's all Wine Bars now! "In my day this all used to be fields" ;)

I love gordon's too, but it does get a bit busy at times. The last thing I want is to have a bunch of HHSB's (that have arrived by cab) parked outside there.
