Hi!
I've been lurking on here on and off for quite a while now. I converted on old Bob Jackson road frame last year and learnt loads in the process mainly thanks to info and advice from this site (and Sheldon's of course) and have been hooked ever since! So I want to start a new project and build up a classic (70's) Italian track bike. I've been looking on ebay for a while now and missed out on a few frames which went for serious top dollar. Anyway I've managed to get in touch with a guy in Italy who use to race in the 70's and 80's and he's got a few frames that he's looking to sell.
The first one he sent me details of is a Colnago which he says is 58cm, now I'm 6 foot 2 and a bit, with fairly long legs, my Bob Jackson is a 60cm and my geared bike is a 61cm. I know track geometry means you can ride a smaller frame but would those few cms difference be too much of a drop?
Here are some pics he sent me. The paint job looks a bit knackered but he tells me the frame is otherwise in good nick.He wants €350 for it which doesn't include the postage from Italy... so what do people think... good deal? Any advice would be much appreciated.

He tells me he's got two other frames as well, one is a 59cm Vicini and the other is a Lo-Pro time trial frame which he thinks is a 60cm, but I'm waiting for him to send over some pics.

58cm will be a tad small for you i'd say. buy them all, then sell them on ebay over here. postage will be roughly £30-35 per frame.

the colnago looks like a mid to mid-bottom range track frame probably 70's.

Buy two and sell one to pay a bit towards the other one, then actually sell both and buy ANOTHER one.
London needs you. :-)

I'd buy it. If it doesn't fit you'll recover your costs selling it on via ebay.

Yeah, I have thought about just buying all three and selling the ones I don't want or don't fit. I should think I'd easily cover the costs.
I presume being a Colnago even if it is a mid range frame its still going to have pretty good build quality.. it looks like its got a Columbus tubing sticker?
He said he was going to send me some more pics today of the other frames so I'll post them up when he does see what people think?

you may struggle to re-coup costs with £300 landed.

Why do you say that? Even if it's correct, I'd take a bottom of the range Colnago above almost anything else.

Really? How so?
The chrome has some pitting but nothing that a good polish wouldn't fix.
It looks very similar to this lovely Colnago Super Track

Hey, I was playing devils advocate.. :-) it's a lovly frame.
The craftsmanship is indistinguishable from that colnago on flickr.. dropouts, crown, etc.

Got some more pics of one

The guy in Italy just sent me some more pics of another frame he's got. This one is a low pro frame, he didn't mention the make and I can't make it out from the images but it looks in good condition.

Anyone recognize the frame make? It looks like it says 'Power Black' to me on the top tube?
Its got a Campy Record BB and a gipiemme headset.
He wants €250 for everything aside from the wheels!!

Nice frames, although I don,t think they're a huge bargain. The Colnago's a great frame, but it's pretty beaten for a £300 bike. Lo-pros look great but they're completely impactical
