Do you really need a big willy bike to do this? I'd like to give it a go though so where is it?

That's a totally random, courtesy of google, boardwalk.
The man made trails I used to ride were in North Wales and Grizedale forest.

I've heard talk of some in South Wales or similar length train rides from London - More info as I find out.

You can totally ride them on a rigid bike, but it'd be a lot more comfortable with suspension.
That said I raced a season of DH on a rigid bike, it just requires more skill and stupidity.

Prav you need to learn to read.

Remember if you take the train this will add 6 miles to the 39 mile route!
It could be stupid and we need to find a copy of that map. Flapjack is a wicked idea. Now I just need to find what I did with my camelback.

Like jumping over a log at High Beach, in front of all the grannies and kids having a jolly day out in Epping, and landing on your side :)

Yes I finally joined. The uniqlo bike thread made me do it.

Haven't clarified with work exactly what days they expect me here, but it will be most of them, so no cycling for me.

For you two that's cool.
Soreen isn't vegan unfortunately.

I'll likely be eating all of the carbohydrates this week then just taking nuts, berries and some bread for the actual ride.

@Object IF you need I have a camlback style hydration what do you call it and a blue BMX / skate lid you can borrow if needs. I am off on friday evening though. Remember Rakan has a lid for sale.

are you guys really doing 45miles off road?
it will be a killer as the trails are not running fast at the moment everything is really draggy and the chalk parts of the north and south downs will have some real sticky bits.
that distance is fine when the trails are dryer but it's really hard to carry any speed at the moment, 2.1's recommended.

Cheers for the offer Tommy, I've actually got a BMX lid, but it's taken a few more heavy knocks than I like. I reckon it's time for a new one, unfortunately Rakan's is too large for me.

If I don't find a suitably priced camel back then I'll definitely take you up on that offer though.

Prav, 2.1? I'm rocking a 2.2 on the back and a 2.35 on the front. Still unsure of pedal choice and fixed vs free yet though.
