Spoks rightly come in for a lot of criticism when applied wrongly, but it's worth remembering that they
were an aerodynamic improvement over the then current wire spoked wheels back in the late 80s, and even the great Chris Boardman used them for domestic time trials. That Yamaguchi appears to date from a time when a Spok was a valid wheel choice for a racing bike, so on this one occasion having a Spok does not automatically and of itself make the whole bike anti.
