Always wondered what it would be like to come off my bike wearing SPD shoes and last night I found out.
Coming home though Cricklewood, I was passing the sorting office when I just caught a glimpse of something moving fast in my peripheral vision. An instant before it went under my front wheel and screamed MEAAAAH! I recognised it as a ginger cat.
The next thing I knew, I was on my arse, looking at the oncoming traffic. A postman stopped the cars, picked my bike up and helped me off the road. He asked me some questions and made sure I was OK (Thanks mate!). My bike was unscratched and I must have landed on my right knee cos that was scrapped and bruised. My right calf was tight too. Nothing major and I made it home.
The suicidal moggie ran off as quick as it appeared - minus a life I guess - into some bushes. He must have taked quite a hit. I was doing 13-14mph and I weigh 12 and a half stone, plus bike. Ouch!
Whole thing was feakish

Never hit a cat but had a pigeon attempt to fly thru my front wheeel once.

Found myself on my back, bike on top of me, my legs covered in blood and gore, checked myself for injuries then noticed the feathers!

I ran my own cat over on my bike once. He seemed none the worse for the experience.

Also had a pigeon go through my front wheel during a time trial years ago. That was very messy.

I had a pigeon go through my front wheel too. Well not so much through it. It sort of flew into it, bounced off, ruffled it feathers and flew off. It was pretty funny. I was going very slowly along the Thames path at the time so no injuries.

I hit a dog once. Riding down the road normal, a little shitty dog ran out, right between my wheels. I looked down and could see it rolling over and over in time with my wheels. Then the owner yelled at me for going so fast. The dog was okay, should be glad I was a bike not a bus.

ha i did the exact same thing when i was possibly 8/9
we live on a hill, so would race down the pavement on each side, more fun as you bounced around
one day a cat ran straight out, front wheel over it, but it legged before back one,
almost went over the bars and ended up having both (shit) brakes on with my arse on the top tube
obv i didnt have spds though ha and it frightened me

dog has to be worse though :S
and pigeons in wheels ... messy !!

cats are kind of dumb but worth more points than flying rats but not as much as a duck. the cat i hit ran off and never left as much as a phone number or i would sue! i think he is ok

I once had a squirrel race me: it ran just in front of my bike, practically under my front wheel. about 60m down, it turned its head looked at me, and dashed off under a parked car.. I think it may even have smiled at me. and yes, I was sober

Me vs. Goose in Hyde Park (on an road bike hence the QR wheel) wing very intertwined in the spokes.

Once free it waddled off and flew away. I hate waterfowl.

I ran over a toad when I was a kid trying to ride my bike (Raleigh Boxer) along the kerb stone. Only saw it as it went under my wheels (I was concentrating on the kerb stone) - never looked back to see the mess but it was pretty buttock clenchingly awful - enough for me to be able to recall it like it was yesterday!

Oh and on the Oz ride, almost came a cropper with a herd (correct collective noun?) of deer in RP in the pitch black. Anyone who was there can vouch it was a pretty intense situation when they crossed the road right in front of us when we were going full tilt.

I was in a road race in Hampshire in 1992 when a couple of deer ran into the bunch. Utter carnage ensued and at least two riders were hospitalised. Nasty.

I've done this a couple of times. The first time it was raining heavily and I had my head down. Looked up for a moment and saw the sillouhette of a huge stag about 4ft away. I had to swerve out of the way to avoid it. Very scary.

I managed to hit a dog a few weeks back, I was riding through a park on the way to work and this stupid black labrador decided to run along side me on my left, then another dog came into the park on my right and the stupid mutt ran straight across the front of me hitting my front wheel and sending me to the floor. no real damage done and the owner was quite apologetic

Really that has nothing to with being vegan or even vegetarian, it is just not being a git.
