The topic on pitlocks (which I'm a great fan of) got me thinking how to secure Phil hubs. I noticed some Phils have a cone shaped cover over the allen key:

Got me wondering if there were security headed screws/bolts available in 8mm x 1.25mm the thread on the hubs. I've had a wee look on Google but haven't found anything suitable, most security screws are designed so that a tool will do them up but have great difficulty undoing them (1 directional ramps etc.), some however work on the same principle as the pitlocks in that a unique (or unusual tool) is needed to both tighten and loosen. If such a thing existed in the right thread it might be rather good for us.
Anyone?

switch your end collars on your phil hubs for the QR version then just use regular pitlocks.

You can buy those Phil Wood Chrome Domes separately on Hubjub for the track hubs but all they do is spread the load and possibly let you tighten the bolts a bit harder .

I was on the verge of converting front hub to do the Pitlock thing and then saw a pic on the board of a crushed pitlock sleeve. Went straight to the mini krypto D evo for less the Phil kit and pits for front wheel and the mini NY faghedablahblah for rear and frame (Cyclexpress).

I think dogsballs posted a link to some similar keyed Mtrax security bolts for motorbike exhaust fastening on Ebay but the key/bolt interface didn't look sturdy enough for hub fixing. Those look more interesting though.

let me know what happens with those bryce bolts ben and if they work with the phils....might be a nice bit of added security for cheap.

I've always wondered why little hex magnets that matched the standard depth of an allen bolt wouldn't do the trick.

Something like these:

This would secure itself in the bolt, preventing any tool from getting it out, and you'd need an electromagnet to remove them.

Not ideal for everyone as eventually thieves would get electromagnets (shoplifters have such things to remove security tags from clothing). But good for niche use where standard bolts in specialised parts (that can't be replaced) could still be made slightly tamper-proof.

It's the whole ball-bearing + superglue in the bolt, but without the use of super-glue and acetate to remove it.

Shame I've never found anyone who makes such things.

Make them yourself - allen keys are ferrous, so magnetise them with a bar magnet, then chop them up with a hacksaw. Wouldn't have to be too perfect.
