There's tonnes of youth hostels and dodgy hotels with similar prices to the hostels. Should be easy to get somewhere being off-peak..

Hotel Winston (now run by St Christophers) is great. Fantastic location (fringes of red light district; 5mins walk to station; 2 mins Dam Sq).

Dorms or doubles - we always do the doubles which are 80 euro a night including breakfast. Dorm rooms start at 26.

The thing that makes this place unique is that each room is designed by a different artist, so no two rooms are the same.

First time we went we had a crazy room which had been entirely done in magnetic paint, so there was that fridge poetry everywhere. Second time was some plush heavy blankets, sofa, thick curtains love-nest and recently was something with a computer circuit theme which I didn't quite understand. Anyway the point is that it is a bit different from the norm and pretty cool.

They have just overhauled it downstairs - the old cafe/fireplace area has been replaced with your more typical coffeeshop vibe - music, pooltables, drinks offers etc. If that's your thing. (I prefered the cafe/chess/fireplace/spliff)

Anyhoo...it's worth a shot, plus there is a bike rental place right around the corner.

Failing all of the above, check out Craigslist. There are a few folks who rent out spare rooms very cheap - 40euro for the night - and you get to stay somewhere homely. There's also a dude with a houseboat who advertises on there.

Have a great time. Rent a bike, but most of all, smoke some of the good shit before the ban comes in this summer.

The Bicycle Hotel, of course.
It's quite nice, don't know if it's exactly super budget.

And then there's The Greenhouse - you can't sleep there but you can stare at the mirrorball for a couple of hours - it's quite mesmerising if you get into the right ..erm.. frame of mind.

Fal,

Stayed in the lloyd hotel just before xmas... anything from 1 star to 5. Wasnt looking at the price but the 3 star was nice shabby but with a hint of prestige about the place. and you can hire bikes from them.

i would stay at the DOWNTOWN flying pig hostel, as opposed to the one out by Vondelpark. depends if you're planning on 'schmurken the wolfensplugen'. where are you gonna lock your bike?

Utopia - cheap rooms built above a coffee shop. Not too far to stumble in between the two. Stairs are fiendishly steep though

i know u said super budget but this place is worth it. I was there in july and the hotel just opened so the offer could be finished. It was forty speuro a night, not bad for a swanky place

I cant find the official site, or the pink elephant hostels are fantastic
