we are a forum of individuals, each with their own thought process and ideas, each person has stated their own personal opinions because the topic was about langsters there has been a condensing of comments about langsters, if you count the number of people who say they don't like langsters ( their own personal opinions ) it will only add up to a small fraction of the members on this site. thus this site is by default in the majority for langsters

A few quotes about originality

"The more powerful and original a mind, the more it will incline towards the religion of solitude.”
"You've gotta be original, because if you're like someone else, what do they need you for?”
"The principal mark of genius is not perfection, but originality.”
“It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation.”
“Originality is the one thing which unoriginal minds cannot feel the use of.”

but hey this is a friendly website no arguements have been had in the time i've been here and i don't think we should decend to the level of the bike forums or the fixedgeargallery where ego's and stupidity has lead to a negative feel where people just have a go at each other, rather we should be promoting the elegence and simplicity of fixed gear and single speed bikes which is the basic reason we are all here

"Something just looks weird about them, but I can't put my finger on it..."

.....that'll be me sitting on it I expect.

Seriously tho(!) £399 struck me as a pretty good deal in 2005 for my langster. I commute on it coz its easy to maintain (like it never needs cleaning) and if it gets smacked i dont care.
I also have a cheapo Specialized road bike too, so suffer equally at the hands of the road set to a lesser extent(?).
Either way I'm not pretending to be Lance Armstrong or a courier.

Can i still join the gang?

Greenman:I'm reading some of these posts and I have to laugh. Do you realize how self-absorbed you sound as you dictate the terms of what's cool and what's not? I am born and raised in NYC. I've ridden the streets of Manhattan since I was a schoolboy. Almost lost my right foot to a cabbie who ran a red light. Took me two years to walk properly again. After this long recovery, I'm back out there again, have ridden almost 1800 miles in 2007 thus far, with a long-term goal of riding Paris-Brest-Paris in 2011. Part of the preparation involves the Boston-Montreal-Boston 1200K in 2008. Because it' involves Boston and it's part of my recovery from near disaster and there's a Boston edition Langster and the geometry fits my body well, I reserved one. But if I read you right, because I want this bike I'm not cool; when you see me you will assume I'm just a coffee shop poseur. You'll disrespect me when you see me on this bike, blissfully unaware that I have eight other bikes in my garage (vintage junkie - and three of them I built myself from mongrels). You'll look at my bike and not my muscle tone as you decide I'm not worth speaking to. Perhaps you should consider taking a moment or two to get to know someone, judging them by their character instead by some artificially-created social standard. The coolest thing you can do is decide for yourself what is good instead of relying on the crowd to decide for you.

'Gwarn then, show us yer muscle tone.

Langsters are like the Model-T Ford of fg/ss, if it get people turned on to gearless that is cool, if people take a few knocks /fall down then get back up and continue with it that is good enough for me, you don't have to earn a right to ride fg/ss except by your own willingness to keep going.

Langsters are a fine ride if you ditch all the stock bits. This one belongs to a friend of mine..

i met a pro skater who let me have a go on his langster and even though it was a bit too big it seemed pretty nice.
he had it powdercoated in baby blue with flat bars on and it had turned out very nicely.

i actually like mine, changed the bars to cropped risers, ruined the back wheel so got a goldtec, like the tight frame, really light and stiff, lifetime warranty, you just have to change the stock parts, the frame is not bad for the money. gonna get it powdercoated when i decide on the colour too.
any ways, were are ALL because we ride either fg or ss, no other reason, some people like classics, some hand made jobbies.......they all do the same at the end of the day........ make me smile 8^)

The Potter to Black Magician comment is brilliant. I understand all the comments regarding negative comments and such. But it strikes me that it would be more poseur to try and build a "genuine" messenger bike and ride that when I'm not a messenger! i just want an SS/FG so I can get stronger, not cooler. That was part of the point I was trying to make, that it makes simply me smile to think that my foot's still attached to my leg, that I can still ride my bicycles after all I went through. You can be sure that the stock bits that are inferior will be tossed, and stickers (have to get Montreal in there somehow) are imminent. I have a pair of Velocity Deep V, Wheelsmith, White Industries wheels that are the first step...

Lifetime warranty? If it has that, then be sure that they won't break for at least 10 years, by that time bicycles will be a distant memory in your life, you'll probably be driving a convertible porsche or something.
