will this mean that I can put caliper brakes with shorter drops on them?

27" wheels are bigger than 700c you'll need long reach brakes

you can get some ALHONGA Deep Drop calipers (dual pivot) they are about 20quid

but you'll need to check whether you need a nut fitting.

I've just done this on my old Nishiki and it was just about fine with the original calipers.

you should take the 27s off before you put the 700s on.

I think he was asking if he could use 27in wheels as a tool to put the 700c wheels on. I'd use a spanner personally.

taking the thread a little away from topic, my conversion project currently has 27's but the rims are pretty gone.

I think drop wise on brakes I won't have a problem, but like the idea of keeping it fairly original.

I know I can get rims and tyres from SJS but it would be easier just to run 700s.

Is the tyre/tube course that bad for 27s?

Check out freshtripe for more reasonably priced 27 rims - 35 GN per pair. Else Ebay...
I think you will not struggle to find tyres as long as you aren't too fussy... like 'I need orange tyres' or 'Must have armadillos ride over glass GRRR!!!'
