Which Road Crankset?

Hi All,

I am currently putting togething my roadbike for Racing next season. The current spec is:

Specialized S-Works 58cm Aluminium Frame
Carbon Aero Post and Forks (as pictured)
Full Ultegra 6600 and 6500 groupset
Wheelsets:
- DA 7700 Hubs laced to Mavic Open Pros (Training)
- Fulcrum 7s, with red rims and red hubs (Commuting/Training)
- Cosmic Aluminium Clinchers 40mm (Racing) or Zipp Carbon Rims
(all above run with Conti GP4000s in red, as there the fastest colour)

The Ultegra groupset is currently on my Giant 90s Carbon road bike, which i will be moving across to the new build. I would like to replace the Crankset (and BB if necessary), but am unsure on which way to go.

These are my two ideas (for now);

FSA Aero Crank Arms (Rings and BB to add £55)
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=35736

These seem to be used on a number of TT bikes, not the lightest, but very stiff (i understand). I currently have a set of the track cranks which look superb.

FSA SLK Carbon Chainset (£60)
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=41436

Seem to be under a good offer. Had a very similar crankset on my previous bike and was extremely impressed.

I would be looking at a 170mm crankset (both above offers have these in stock). Any opinions on the better crankset. Gut feeling seems to be to go for the SLK.

Pic of frame currently built up;

FSA carbon if you ask me. I think you need a red saddle and stem....

The frame from the picture is being kept, everything else is due to change. Should look more like this below, with different bar tape and rims;

I have a FSA SLK Pro crankset and think it's excellent. Got it for an extremely good price at Planet X (c. £120). However, the FSA crank you posted the link to has an ISIS bottom bracket - are you aware that the bearings on these get shot pretty fast? I'd highly recommend going for an outboard BB design e.g. something with FSA MegaEXO - far more reliable, lighter, stiffer. In which case the price shoots up and a Shimano offering could well be better value.
