Last night I rode home from work and it was a real slog. I thought that either my brakes were out of alignment, or my chain needing cleaning and oiling. but when I got home and examined the bike I found that one of the spokes on my back wheel had broken. this immediately made me think, "what would happen if this occurred on long ride"?

Does the DD support vehicle carry any bog-standard front and rear 700c wheels? since the majority of riders will be geared, will anyone carry any rear wheels that are singlespeed (17 or 18 sprocket)? Just a thought. Punctures will not be a problem (will any enterprising souls be carrying that Slime stuff for quick repairs), but a broken spoke or cracked rim, will need to be replaced.

I hope its a great ride for everybody, and I'm pretty sure I'll be able to do it next year, but in the meantime, I'd hate for someone I know to not be able to complete due to something like broken spokes.

actually, the stag train's broomwagon won't be following our route and will be meeting us at the finish (barring any incident) so we're not supported as such. just some bacon/beer/fresh clobber at the end.

And of course the podium girls and midgets with trays of coke on their heads.

if you are standing in london fields you will be standing outside my small abode. am thinking if people need last minute track pump (puncture on way to start of ride) - refill of water bottles, etc. then will open the door. but the real pre-ride atmos will clearly be in the park itself.

see ya later dude

I realise I've made all the wrong preperations!

so off comes the brake, on with some un-taped track bars, forget the saddle bag and water bottles, forget the rucksack with energy food and spare clothes. Instead I've got an xxl messenger bag full of records, spoke cards and camera equipment with space for two cans of red-stripe.

my massive new-york chain will be round my waist, the lycra is out and the jeans are on.
