It's as good as any other day to do it.

The new server is set up and I tested it last night. All that is left to do is to shut this forum for updates... copy the database across and open the forum on the new server.

Then you just have to update your DNS settings if you want to get to it immediately, and I will update my DNS settings so that it takes effect by magic pretty soon.

You should simply start accessing the new server at some point today.

The big bits:
1) This server will close... you will not be able to post.
2) When you get to the new server... you will be told, and you can post.
3) It can take in the worst case scenario up to 48 hours to get to the new server, this depends on your DNS provider (ISP or work) and is out of my control.

See you on the other side.

They don't get transfered. The site will have been mirrored at a particular point in time.
Any comments made on the old server after that stay on the old server and are deleted when the server is purged of FGSS.

Too much hassle, just insult people and rant on the new server.
May have to do more than usual to keep the daily average up though as this mornings utterances are gone.

You wankers :]

Ahem.

That bit of downtime was me adding another 756MB of RAM to the server. It wasn't quite cutting it on 256MB.

Let's see how this works.

pagefile on linux? swap you mean.

I dunno, I was kinda hoping that as I'd got linux to run happily in 60MB that the 256MB was going to be enough. Didn't quite turn out that way, every apache2 child process was using 20MB, and MySql is sucking all of the CPU, fun!

Blimey, that hosting looks pretty good value for money, especially considering the control you get.

Providing you can build apache, MySql, set up the DNS, and the virtual hosts, and get MySql installed, are happy on the command line, etc, etc.

It's hosting by developers and for developers. There is no hand-holding at all.

That said, it's a hell of a bargain if you can do that stuff.
