| | Downham Sundays I'm making a new header for the site and part of it is a social calendar that shows all of the compass beers. For Sunday there's a great big blank that I thought Downham Polo filled... but yet, no thread that I could find with a couple of searches. Am I wrong about Downham Polo? Is there a Sunday venue I can be pointing people towards? |

| | We're a nomadic bunch, but Downham is the usual Sunday (and Saturday) location. http://www.londonfgss.com/thread6372.html |

| | We spent half the day at Downham, and half the day at Mitch yesterday. They're about 2 minutes from each other, but Mitch has lights. We've been known to head South occasionally, but usually on Saturdays, and even then, I would guess it's only been half a dozen times. |

| | Ah, in that case I'll include Downham in the calendar but link to this thread where the nomadic explanation is early and obvious. Just response as and when you will be down there and I'm sure people will pop down to watch and participate (it's going to be in the header of every page on the site). |

| | I pass though the Shoreditch/Hoxton/Soho areas of London numerous times a day1. They2 must have butchered my hair whilst I was stopped at some traffic lights3. 1.The only true part of this post. 2."They" is the collective term for the hipster elite. 3.Even I don't believe that bit. |

| | Lucky you guys weren’t around yesterday when a bunch of guys on new fixie bikes from Bournemouth came to hang out at Downham. They’re on the forum, I’ll just PM them and let them know they’re not welcome next time. Or i could just tell them we don't play there anymore and hopefully they won't come back. |

| | Serisouly Gabes, this thread makes polo players sound like a bunch of cliquey wankers who don’t want to advertise where they play and don’t want people with new bikes hanging around because it annoys them. Loads of people don’t play the first time they turn up, they just come along on their non-polo bikes to hang out and see what’s involved. Stop being such a hater. |

| | I think i sit somewhere in the middle, i love new players, but i don't like non-playing spectators. The odd passer by checking it out, fine. But a few weekends ago the court was flooded with non-playing spectators, the real downham atmosphere faded as polo was being ignored by the majority of people sat on the steps. It felt really weird. Not sure why there were so many on one day but they outnumbered players. I, personally, wouldn't want a polo court to become a new fixed gear hang out spot. Trick people would want to 'keo' on court and the usual atmosphere would change. But new players, definitely a yes from me! Cameron, Mike and Venn, unbelievable progression. think we got a new one on saturday as well, Christophe. He turned up on his brakeless track bike with drops, but as soon as he got to the court he was playing and talking about getting a polo set up. |

| | I don't want to advertise openly where we play, if people want to take the time to go to forum24 and find out where polo is today, good for them, come along, but inviting just about everyone on fgss along maybe isn't great. and personally, i don't want lots of people just hanging about, i feel safe now leaving my bag lying around, if there's people we don't know in larger numbers about, shit is going to start going missing. i'm not hating, i'm being honest about my thoughts. | | Gabes and I were just talking about this, and this is what I'm thinking: I'm totally open for new players to come/hanger-ons to hang. Sunday has always been the day of public polo (not that the other days are private, but if any one day should be publicized, it's Sunday). And if we become closed, people like Jaygee (who came yesterday, and I haven't seen in ages) would never show. But that's just me. (Really, I just see them as more people to get free beer from). If we have any problems, it's the lack of players at games lately! It sucks being on the court with 5 people. |
