You idiot. I am sure they are, but no one want a librarian running a pub, we want a dirty old bastard who feels up the customers and does lock-ins on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Been a tumultuous week, I am not exaggerating when I say I only left my house this week for the first time in 4 days, been working like a Jew/Christian/Muslim. | ||

| | can you imagine calling up some society or organisation saying you were researching their area of knowledge and asking for some guidance and getting told to search their fucking archive and that if this was the way you were going about your research the end result would be shit and that you were lazy and not serious....and then when som eone else stepped in and suggested that this response was a little unfriendly, their response was that it was perfectly acceptable because they are entitled to think and say what they liked and that life would be boring if people didnt. why should the internet differ.....we are all real people - why be rude just because you are talking to a stranger you cant see. its the same mentality some car drivers have cocooned in their cars swearing at everyone etc. i just dont like people being rude. |

| | I always sleep in my clothes; what else would I sleep in? My next door neighbour's clothes? A roll of chain link fencing? Oh, you mean the same clothes you wore during the day. You filthy swine. You're probably one of the people who've been paying money for Clefty's shit. Dirty. |

| | I totally missed the boat with this book. I remember when it first came out people who had read it would look at you like you were inferior if you hadnt read it because it was so amazing. stfu velo libre. Anyway like anything else that gains popular acceptance, by the time I'd read it, people were slating it and saying it was actually shit. I fucking liked it. I still like it. I watched angels and demons on the plane and it was fucking good. I like vegemite. That attractive irish chap releasing anti-matter out of helicopter and parachuting to safety was a bit of a stretch in an otherwise plausible film thought. | | So, Cat posts up looking for first hand accounts of bike theft on a large London based (and elsewhere) bike forum, for the purposes of gathrering information and contacts with people who have had first had experience of bike thefts and recoveries etc. She's not lazy, she's very smart. It's one of the first things I would do if i was trying to do something similar. After all this flaming and cold treatment by certain forum members, sorry, bike nerd cunts she probably won't bother with us and will miss out on a load of accurate and interesting info, and the docu will not be as good as it could have been. Did anyone bother to check how long she's been on the forum? Join date shown as 1st October. UTFS? Give her a break FFS. Have you seen the size of some of these threads? There are only so many hours in a day and only so many days in a budget for research prior to production. I'm sure this forum will not be her only source of information. This is a chance to raise public and government awareness about something that is a constant menace for us all and all certain members can think about is flaming, UTFS and "you're being lazy, go and research somewhere else." I really hope Cat is not put off by all this needless crap and actually pursues contacts via the forum. Well done, you heartless dickheads (you know who you are). |

| | Hi all, Thanks for your comments. Just a note, I am towards the start of this project and the point of the thread was to go in broad and call out for helpful people to come forward and share some info. The precess obviously becomes narrower as it goes on. These forums are an invaluable resource to get the word out, and work alongside all the traditional tools of journalism and documentary research. It was from reading a string of posts on alternative threads that I approached the fgss admin for permission to post this one. I live close to Brick Lane and am no stranger to bike theft. And because of a relationship with a bike fanatic, nor am I complete stranger to bike culture. BUT, I do think it's quite a closed world and that it's important to speak as many people as possible in it to get leads and threads. I really appreciate those who've messaged me in this respect. I will be down on Brick Lane on Sunday with a researcher, so if anyone is heading over there, they should PM me and I can arrange. For a bit of background info. I'm a producer with October Films, one of the UK's most respected and well-established documentary production companies. A little more information can be found here www.octoberfilms.co.uk |

| | Can I just say it really suck that this thread was derailed. It would have been really great if the forum could have clubbed together and given Cat all the info she needs to get her programme of the ground. I hope she dosn't look back at this thread and think we are bunch of twats. It would be a shame if this documentry doesn't use the resources this forum has to offer. She hasn't posted since she started the thread, lets hope she comes back. |

| | I'd be unsurprised if we didn't make it to approx £100,000 if we totalled up all of the bikes we have had stolen. For example Scott's Big Link was 5K all on it's own. It's a huge issue/source of revenue for malefactors, yet seems to be almost completely ignored by the Police. |

| | Welcome octoberf. Good luck with the programme. I feel its really good time to be doing cycle subjects, what with all the Skyrides and bus stop posters and guided rides to work, but no state investment in cycling through active police priority in this theft matter ... nor the matters of attacks with or from vehicles, dangerous and without-due-care driving leading to harrasssment, injury and deaths of cyclists on our roads. Actually, if, in your development of the programme, you might get interested in this: http://www.seemesaveme.com/blog/ It originated from a meeting organised here: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread29719-7.html I am tangenting for a reason: I know you asked about theft, but put simply, heavy goods vehicles and cyclists is a much better subject to cover :) But if you're still on theft: on piece of advice, it would be good if there was good information in the programme about how best to lock up - I see a lot of badly locked bikes around very prone to theft... Hope you can come along to a social or ride event and meet some people. The Rollapalooza racing things are a good start (they are riding and very social in one - some of the 'night rides' we run are too, the South/SE/North/East/West beers (most nights), or go to a polo game ... get involved!). It can't be stressed enough (though andyp did mention it earlier) to anyone arriving here that this place is a bit special and isn't like forums where no-one ever meets, other than 'electronically'. A lot of us here are mates in a sprawling interconnected network of groups at one or two degrees of separation. Close knit and really remarkably civilised, in other words.
