Fuji track bottom bracket

Hi , Can anyone give me some advice or help. I have had the bike for about 3 months and have takern it back to the shop were i purchased it twice as the bottom bracket makes a klunking noise when going up hill . It also seems to fill loose . Last time the shop just regreased it and tightend it up,But two weeks later its the same.
Has anyone had the same problem and can anyone recomend a good replacement bottom bracket . Also a good bike shop or repairer who can do the job. I live in Wimbledon. Thanks

I've had mine for a year and a half and have always had problems with the stock BB. Creaking, clunking and coming loose quite often.

you don't regrease cartridge bottom brackets. get a new one of same dimensions, crank puller and bb tool and diy.

my advice for help is go to the Condor shop on Grays Inn road, the guys there are really helpful and give no bullshit advice, they are also a hell of a lot cheaper than any of the other bikes shops i've been to and are reasonable on fitting components

You'll need a BB with a 103mm spindle

does anyone know the standard dimensions/threading of the bottom bracket that is standard on the fuji track?

can it be replaced with a miche primato, for example, to fit a miche advanced chainset?

^ i'm guessing its english-threaded 68mm. You can certainly fit a Miche Primato plus chainset - but bear in mind chain alignment issues. Check the transmission database.

A Miche BB will have an ISO spindle, so fitting the existing cranks back on will give a dodgy chainline.

Sugino and (I think) FSA do an 102mm JIS taper BB for about £20

so, if you used a miche primato advanced cranks/chainring, on the recomended miche BB, you should end up with roughly the correct chainline? because these products are designed to work together to create ~42mm chainline?

thanks for the help,

its just im struggling with 'what is compatible with what' (had a look throught the database too)....

essentially: i have a fuji track, with a knackered chainring and BB,

my options are

1/ replace everything with new stock items
2/ upgrade! - easier said than done!

If you get (for example) Miche Primato cranks with the Miche bottom bracket then it will all go onto the bike fine and will give a decent 42mm chainline.

The Miche bottom bracket allows some fine tuning as neither of the cups has a lip to prevent it being screwed further into the frame, the only thing to look out for is that they sometimes unscrew themselves- although I think this is usually only on Italian threaded versions.

I would recommend using some plumbers tape to secure the cups of the bottom bracket anyway for peace of mind if nothing else.

So- remove current cranks and BB, chuck them in the bin, stick new Miche (or whatever) on, job's a good'un.

thanks a lot mate, thats the answer i was hoping for!

the advanced crankset/ring + miche BB is comming to £115 *cringe*

but i would end up having to spend 60-70 odd if i replaced everything with stock items (fsa veros, cheapie bb) - so may aswell bung the rest and get an upgrade - i guess!

riding fixed is not so smooth and zen-like with a chainring the shape of pringle!

cheers

I am not 100% sure but i think that shimy un 54 107mm will work well with fuji track stock chainset. that could be much cheaper option that the whole upgrade.

then you can just replace the work chainring

hi mate, not quite sure what you mean?

if i use a new chainring on my fsa cranks, it will make the chain sit 3-4mm futhur out from the centre of the bike...

to compensate this, i would have to have a narrower bottom bracket - and i was under the impression that the standard fuji BB was 103mm?

(unless its actually 110mm?, and then yeah - changing to a 107mm JIS sq taper, Should bring a replacement chainring back into line)

SHimy 107 is jis which will bring the cranks to correct position as the priginal one was 103mm iso. If ou go for that shimy 107mm then you could still continue using the original cranks and the new chainring. That's what i was thinking. I tried all that on a sugino mesenger chainset which comeswith the same crapy fsa 103mm bb in a tricross.

Had my Track (2008 model) for five months now. Today i looked down two see that the bottom bracket had 'unwound' leaving 9mm of thread which then lead onto the left side crank arm, then splitting and cracking off. How the hell did this happen?
So i'm back to Evans, however i have spray painted the frame and done a bit of minor part swopping, this better not void the warranty if there ever was one.

I undid my BB last night to find out what the funny feeling was and half the smashed bearing cartridge fell out. Magic. So did anyone replace their 2008 stock BB and leave all the other parts? Did it work? What do I need to look for when ordering a new BB? It seems to be about 10cm wide in the spindle - is that the only measurement I need aside from threading type?

"68-107mm"

On the above, 107 is spindle width? What does the other number refer to?

should be fine, if the cranks are JIS taper, which i don't know.

you want the top one, that is 68mm and 107mm, which is the shell width and spindle width of your old bb respectively, according the values you have given us.

this bb will only be correct if the fuji track bb is jis or iso taper, which i dont know.

Does anyone know if the thread is English or italian? I can't get the old one off either way.

English thread 1.37x24tpi, 68mm shell, 103mm axle.

You'll have to buy a 68-103mm bb if you're using the stock cranks. It may be hard/expensive to find; I bought mine on ebay.

Cool, thank you. That's what I paid for a second hand (albeit not well used) FSA one. I'll keep that in mind if I need to replace it again.

Out of interest, what is the make of the stock Fuji bottom bracket? I'm about to replace a BB, and would like to avoid this one now!
