I tried this a while ago and it failed.

This time I'm sober though so I figured I'd give it another try.

Over the next hour or two there might be weird errors and stuff as I upgrade parts of the forum.

Bear with me while I try and force it through fine.

My kettle has now stopped working, I am boiling water in a pan to make a cup of tea, I am not sure if it is related to the forum upgrade but I would appreciate it if you checked your code just in case.

Mac Quadra + OS 7.2 + Netscape Navigator (V2 - 1994).

tynan probably took the glass casing off the fuse to save weight -

you know the water boils faster if the kettle is lighter...

He should get one of those vacuum pump things, water boils at 40 celcius in a vacuum.

does it take a threaded or an ahead style plastic cup? I'd recommend investing in a titanium one - not cheap but will survive boiling water.

Should all be finished.

Minor changes around the place.

There's a new security rule as well, you can't pick a password that is the same as your username. It's because bots have been created that attempt to login to forums to send spam under the names of registered users. All 24 users who had done this have had their passwords reset and been notified by email.

How did you know their passwords? I'm seriously hoping that this was a username hash == password hash, rather than the more insidious alternative?

as far as I know the forum software has encrypted passwords which the op can't even access (it used to anyway). So don't worry mash. your bank password is safe.

Basically yes.

I store:
  • username
  • user salt (unique gibberish value to guarantee hashed passwords cannot be looked up in a hash database)
  • password hash
So to check who had set the password the same as the username I:
if (md5(username + user salt) == password hash) {
inform user and change password
}

No actual passwords are stored on the server, and if you read the javascript you'd see that your password is never sent to the server if javascript is enabled (password is hashed in the browser and only the hashed value is sent).

Happened when Social Group leaders could create Forums.

A while ago.

Though that layout is now bugging me.

VB.. could we have some sort of alert when threads become slanging matches? similar to a crowd of children yelling "fight fight fight". I tend to miss the juicy kick-offs until long after the event [e.g when the biker boys turned up, the scientologist etc.]

p.s. headers are mint but I occasionally yearn for london eyerospok
