London Fixed-gear and Single-speed SJS Cycles

I just popped a singlespeed freewheel from Shimano on the other side of my fixed/free Phil hub - chainline good, but a little wiggle room on the 1/8 chain. I had heard they were 1/8 compatible, no? Should be fine, but I like everything to fit right.

I've got a Shimano freewheel and an 1/8 chain. It works fine, but can sound a bit agricultural at times.

Just to be different, I had a shimano freewheel and 1/8 chain on the Bob, chainline was good but it still regularly binned the chain under anything more than a mild effort. Same set-up worked perfectly on the fixed side though.

Just one thought... if it's an old chain on a new freewheel it may get a touch rattly... maybe splash out on a new chain?

It's a pretty new chain, 300-400 miles. I'll see how it goes. Just need to put a second brake on before I can take it out, two brakes FTW.

Hmm. Took it out on a 50 miler yesterday. Loud. Very loud. Click, creak, click, squeak. Click. Creak. Click. You get the picture.

Also, still wobbling ever so slightly. Not impressed.

take it apart, use phils grease (cos i know it doesn't make the pawls stick) to pack the bearings, and re-assemble.

could use another thin grease, but it has to be thin. Thick grease will make the pawls stick.

should be silent and very smooth then.
