How to measure brake drop?

Pretty much as it says in the title.

I've put my 700c rims on my frame (which used to carry 27" wheels) and it's clear standard drop brakes aren't going to reach. What's the best/most accurate way to measure what 'drop' (caliper) brakes I need?
