@ grandeanse & hitch - i also felt undergeared for the first week or so when I first went SS. You soon get used to spinning faster & it feels much better than constantly pushing a larger gear - don't change anything just yet.

(though of course, you may be undergeared!)

I too have a Fillmore, and it does feel a bit undergeared. However the trade off is really really snappy acceleration, and a decent hill climbing ability (all big SS worries) so it's not all bad.

My set-up also came with a computer, and it averages 18mph cruising, and the fastest I've managed to get it to spin to on flat land is 27.8mph, so not too shabby a gearing for an OTP

@Luke@TC - that's a bit of a poor show mate IMHO. I appreciate you have a business to run but posting up a sales pitch in a thread that's here for people to make a choice between all the OTP SS and FG bikes out there is more likely to turn punters off to be honest. Simply because they may well see your actions as opportunistic...

VanUden, I think Luke from Triton may be a nice enough fella, but if he's prepared to advertise his business to a couple of thousand possible buyers, and not know the difference between "they're" and "there", then if people laugh at his efforts, then its all too sad eh?

Mind you, I did have them listed as selling the SE Lager for £365.99, till I saw the savings to be discovered elsewhere.

Got me a Fuji Track last week from all about the bike (free shipping), ordered tues night 7pm, came friday morning. Lovely machine, although anyone purchasing one may wish to alter the gearing as it is set up for the track, I've gone to 48 / 17 which I'm finding much better and still allows you to keep the chain the original length.
Coming from a mountain bikage background i'm still adjusting to the basic having to keep pedalling requirement ie. keep getting the occasional kick in the arse by my bike.
Oh yeah stuck a front brake on too, which took some doing seeing as my local Ev*ns and 2 LBS's didn't know wtf it was I was asking for, despite explaining it very slowly too them.
Only other thing is that the stock tyres/tubes only take 90 psi max ie, not quite 90 (this I found out after cranking 90 psi in to them, only for the rear tube to blow at 4am, didn't go down too well with the missis)

Fred, you're right. What he did was upfront. So, I've put Triton's link in for the Charge Plug, and deleted the Evans link, in "the list". But I think if advertisers want to advertise here, money should be going to VB/DK. But in the spirit of helping the smaller guy, I amended.

But I'll delete my post. :-)

i think it's fair enough, Luke. you're just trying to make a living - I'm sick to death of the self-righteous comments that appear as soon as anyone posts a simple, informative sales notice.

Luke, the forum owner and adminstrator is Velocity Boy.

Sorry if anyone (me included) might seem hard on you, but the effort VB puts into creating, maintaining and improving this forum is huge. I think its fair if reasonable people like yourself allocate part of your advertising budget to VB if you think it might be a positive move, and may gain you new customers.

and given that VB is not currently running any banner ads at all, paid or otherwise, how is he supposed to do that? just stop trying to police the place, it's not your job.

No sweat Luke and welcome to the board. In my mind at least there's a difference between a LBS posting and a huge enterprise like say Evans. If my original reply to your pitch was harsh then I apologise. And the reason you give for posting makes perfect sense. I suppose I'm just generally cycnical about the relationship between commerce and community in the online space but then who am I to talk - I work in advertising. Probably why I am so cynical about it!

Wooooh! Stop any chance of some advice? Please?

I'm a noob and I'm looking for my first SS OTP.

I've been looking at the Charge Plug, LeMond Fillmore and the Genesis Flyer obviously I'll try them all out (tried the flyer already) but is there any you wouldn't go for or definatly would go for, bad points/ good points etc, thanks in advance for the advice.

Unfortunately I've got a ride to work voucher for Ev**s so I have to get it from there!

Cheers

just finish testing the rest of the bike in your list and decided which one you like the best (if it the Charge Plug - remember to change tyres to a slicker thinner one, as the current one is rather slow).

What about a Pearson Hanzo?
http://www.pearsoncycles.co.uk/produ...GLE_SPEED_2008

Steel frame, flip-flop hub, £450. Anyone know anything about these?

That Touche of theirs (already mentioned) looks nice - just not sure about an aluminium frame.

i recently rode a Giant Bowery that I bought second-hand for a mate, and i didn't like it anywhere near as much as my fuji track. it felt kind of 'tinny'. so if anyone is tossing up between those two bikes, i would absolutely recommend the fuji.

I just bought myself a Giant Bowery (£225 for the WIN!) from pearson's.

A fully customizable OTP bike for that price is pretty fucking sexual.

I really love it, and you should too.

"tinny" isn't nowhere enough to describe how the Bowery ride, can you describe it a bit better please?

Question:
Can I just change the tyres on the Plug to make them thinner? Wouldn't I have to change the whole wheel?

you don't know much about bike do you?

yes you can, no need to change wheels, just make sure that it's the right size tyres (like the difference between an MTB and a road bike wheel size).
