I think I'll get slated for this but they were pure DIY before they got massive.

Teenslain - blimey - great selections.

Another classic Pebbles Vol 1 track... I picked this 45 up a few years ago, it's always been one of my fave tracks... Love the reverbed rhythm guitar that goes all the way through, topped off with an awesome psych-punk rave-up at the end... Enjoy... :]

We've already touched on LX Chilton, here's one of his first solo singles... It pretty much ticks every box for this thread... If you haven't already, go and pick up Like Flies on Sherbert, quite possibly one of the greatest (and strangest) LPs ever made... Someone's knocked up this NvSFW video, pretty amusing... :]

Here's a not very typical track from Like Flies on Sherbert sung by the legendary Ross Johnson, trap-drummer extraordinaire... I met him at a friend's BBQ in Memphis a few years ago and told him how a lot of those late 70s Memphis records shaped the way I looked at the world and informed my choice of career... He was really moved, he said they were all just getting drunk, popping downers, making goof-off records and never thought anybody would actually be buying them and going crazy about them thousands of miles away... Top dude... Next, Gustavo Falco and his Unapproachable Panther Burns...

Not their best track, but great all the same... Tav (or Gus Nelson to his mum) is one of the strangest men I've ever met... Interviewed him once before a show in the late 90s and it was such a melon-twisting experience that I couldn't stay for the show... He talks a whole heap of shit and is the ultimate snake-oil salesman but those early Panther Burns records are incredible, Alex plays on the first coupla singles and the first LP Behind the Magnolia Curtain... Essential, up there with The Cramps when it came to my musical education... Just shut up Tav and play yer guitar... ;]

Agree on Bummed. Although I think Freaky Dancing was produced by Bernard Sumner. This was one of Hannet's last I think? A forgotten band unfavourably tagged 'Madchester':

Penny Farthing's comment about stuff on this thread being 'obvious': this is quite an elitist thing to say, for someone like me who really knows absolutely nothing about this stuff but is loving it (me). I have heard of about maybe 2 percent of the bands on here, and I consider myself to be someone who like music in general but hasn't ever been exposed to this sound, since I really only explored a few 'scenes' over the years and this wasn't one of them.

I'm not having a pop, just saying that these kinds of threads (the ravey ones, the Bright times one, the dubstep one etc etc) are really useful cos we can share really cool stuff with people who haven't heard it, if they're ready to listen to it. I'm nearly 40 and the dubstep one was quite an eye opener cos I really haven't heard any of that stuff either, but I know a bit about roots and drum & bass and live dub and other related jamaican sounds... so it's been a good introduction. I look forward to playing all these^^^ tunes over the next few hours, and I've been doing that regularly. At the moment I'm loving the Brogues.

Now I want to hear some 'electronic' music, who's going to start that thread?

There are so many different types of "electronic" music where would you start? Electro, Drum and bass, the 8000 different kinds of house, Techno.....???? I wouldn't mind chiming in on a good electronic thread. There are a few house threads on the forum, but I'm not a huge house fan.

What ever happens no damn electronic music other than Silver Apples/ Suicide type stuff on this thread! Punishable by a severe tounge lashing!

I have a whole bunch of Oneida records and I've seen them tons since they were our neighborhood band in Williamsburg Brooklyn. They're really nice guys. I have some amazing Oneida silkscreen gig posters too.

If your gonna go down the Oneida road I may as well add another great Brooklyn band (Oneida in crowd) "USAISAMONSTER" watch the whole video its pretty amazing. Saddly they just broke up this year :(

@ Elguapo - I saw USA is a monster in Dalston kinda recently, hadn't heard them before but they were great. Played two sets, one where they spoke a bit about a piece of american history which had influenced the following song, and the next was an awesome party.

Heres someone who I've only just discovered...

Don't think that this is a repost (nice thread btw): anyone tired listening to the 'The Lea Shores', they are from Peckham, London Town, London you know. The album is only just out - I've got it on repeat at the moment ...

unfortunately a vital component of shoe gazing was a healthy dash of hair...something i am sadly lacking in my advancing years, think I'd just look like I'd lost something if I did it now. Hopefully MBV's skills of curation are better than album making or the festival will probably be on in about five years ......Sonic Youth at Butlins though! thats gotta be worth a ticket
