jamaican skids aren't that bad as long as you don't have vans slip-ons or converse on. just like one-footed skids its one of those 'hey look at the cool type of skid i can do on my fixie!' "tricks" but is also useful in certain situations (ie. your strap or clip breaks, your cleat has worn down, etc) where you can't fix the problem right then but if you know how to do any of the above you can still stop yourself.
or get a brake.

I know that looks like ass. My mates Bianchi came like that. With the 2 pence pedals. He's now got SPD-SLs but I rode about on it just as that pic is with flats and no brakes. Scary stuff. Never got much faster than 5mph.

who are we(you)to judge...what makes you so special?????
I agree that we're in no position to judge a person based on their job, but we can certainly judge a bike based on it's equipment. Riding no brakes with platforms is stupid and dangerous (and I ride brakeless so I know the deal). Either he doesn't "haul ass" or he's a total liability on the streets. I think some of the criticism is a way of pointing this out.

Plus the BSNYC entry was pretty funny cos he didn't really concentrate on the braking system.

Possibly but I don't remember them. I don't remember much of anything though.

I like " pan someone's head in" :-) I can just imagine some enraged housewife beating victim senseless with a frying pan.. all whilst wearing cuddly apron or something equally 'homely'. Evil housewife of death strikes again! :)

i have to say that the reason it probably came to the fore because of bike snob is because people read that rather than trwaling fgg or velospace.
