Any one fancy deconstructing and reconstructing, for a fee?

you should post this up in mechanics and fixing somewhere... maybe do it in parts.. find out what BB it's got and borrow that tool(tool borrowing thread)... then the headset is the one you'll need help with... oh, and putting it back together again...

Am I right in thinking that they'll only do single colours and won't mask out and paint panels, head tubes etc in different colours?

I'm pretty sure they don't but asking won't hurt.

If you want an elaborate paint job you will have to use companies like Argoss or Mercian.

I'm considering getting my new frame done.

Apparently they charge by colour rather than by frame?

If that's right, anybody fancy going halves on a charcoal/gunmetal grey? (ie getting 2 frames done in the same colour).

Do they apply decals if you supply them? Have people had them do it and been happy?

The guy told me that "If you bring 5 frames and we do them in the same colour we can work something out..." Pretty vague.

I've not used them, but I suspect they have a basic charge for painting a frame/forks in a single colour, then extra charge if you want two colours. That sounds logical to me anyway.

I took my frame in on Tuesday afternoon, they charge £49 for frame and forks in single colour.

That gives you the standard finish, which isn't super shiny, kind of satin.

+£15 for a gloss laquer, add £3/4 or so to this I think and you can get a metalic flake put in the laquer to give you gloss and sparkly for £18ish.

So for me with steel frame and forks, no chrome masking, single colour and gloss laquer = £64

Extra things like bars and pedals, or hubs etc are £5 a pop if you are doing it the same colour. I think if you want a different colour you start again at a base fee of £45 or so and work from there depending on how many items you've got.

I'll post some pics when I get the frame back. ez

I'm looking for software to help me design a future geared build. I don't have photoshop/image editing software, I don't wan't to use pedal i.d. as its quite limited and I have searched but all I get is i.d. I may have to just install GIMP and get whats-his-names .psd file from here but I don't really have the space for it on my harddrive. Any programs/sites?

tk307, you could try Photoshop express - the online version - https://www.photoshop.com/express/landing.html. It's quite limited but it may work for you.

So do you just pick an RAL colour and say you want it trans rather than solid - or is it a different pallette to choose from?

Not sure if its quite as transparent as that sword pic. This is over a fillet braze.

^for best effect and durability, two component car type clear coat from a (any?) backyard lacker. short of that, i had good results with Halford's clear laquer rattle cans (saunalike heated garage, min 30°C warmed spray can and lottsa time for fine grain sanding inbetween the 3-5 coats ontop of each other after slightly more than tacky dried)

The only reason I asked was because I have had 2 frames powder coated and they are ready to be picked up. I had to pay extra for an anti rust undercoat but they did not mention anything about laquer. They just said that the colour is in gloss and that was it.

Picked my frame up from Armourtex yesterday, it was exactly 48 hrs turnaround. RAL 5015 with the metallic/glitter lacquer. Looks awesome imo.

Currently plastikoting the forks white cos I wasn't willing to splash out an extra £45 getting them done a separate colour...looking pretty good so far! Will post pics soon...

Doeas anyone know how good armourtex are at powder coating lugs a different colour to the rest of the frame. Have an old Falcon frame with nice lugs and wanted to have the frame off white and the lugs red. Good idea? Also, what prep do I need to do? Have stripped 98% of the paint and nearly lost all the rust, is that good enough?

Some lovely spray jobs here guys.

slow reply but no, you'll need to get the bike nice and naked for them to work on it, they're not bike mechanic!

Im sure this has been asked a few times but i've searched and couldnt find anything...

Can someone outline the main benefits of getting a powder coating with a laquer coat over spray painting a bike and then applying a laquer coat out of a can?

I have tonnes of good quality paint (montanas and such like) which i could use after nitromorsing an old frame - it seems a decent fix for not too much dollar!

i think bare matal paint jobs look better on a lugged frame, rather than fillet brazed though.

Just got a call from Armourtex 24 hours (practically to the minute) after I left a frame and forks in saying it was ready for collection! Picking up tomorrow.

Does anyone know if white spirits will harm a lacquered powdercoat? (just so I can have a white spirited cloth ready for when I'm lining the lugs)

+1 to the lugs. You also need a very good builder who knows it's all going to be on show! Any idea who they got to do the blasting and lacquer?
