Updated as of 6th April 2008.
You have two options when wanting to get photos onto this site.
Option 1 (preferred):
- Click reply when responding to a post or thread, to use the larger WYSIWYG entry text box.
- Either click the paperclip
in the top left of the formatting bar above the text box or in the "Additional Options" area below the box you can "Manage Attachments"... both ways will do the same thing and give you a popup window to allow you to upload files.
- Then either upload the pictures directly from your computer, or from remote websites.
Option 2:
- Click the image icon above the text entry box
.
- Enter the URL of a remotely hosted image. Note that this image must already be on the internet somewhere (not your computer) and that the URL must be to the image itself... it should end in .jpg, .png, or .gif
That's it.
Why is option 1 preferred?
- We create thumbnails for you automatically.
- It's lower bandwidth for other sites users, as they can view the thumbnail and decide whether to click through to the larger image.
- If we host the image we know how big it is and can include that in the HTML, which means the "Jump to post" stuff works accurately but remotely hosted images will force the page to continue expanding down with each image it loads.
- The image will be permanently available even though the remote website may be down.
- The site remains fast even when a remote website may be slow.
