Ebay bid retraction

I was looking at an item on eBay, on my iPhone.
Going to press "Watch this item" I hit "Buy it Now", it took me to the confirmation page and I thought sod it I may as well have it, so pressed confirm.

Now the issue is twofold- number one I am an idiot, and it is the wrong part.
Number two I contacted the seller and explained that it was a mistake, and could I possibly retract the bid, sorry for the inconvenience etc.

He says fine, but wants a fiver for wasting his time, fees etc.

The item price was £20 (with postage of £4, but I'd have picked it up).

Now I have never sold anything through ebay- will relisting it cost him £5?

What would the lfgss community call a fair price in this situation?

Might be better to just have it and pass it on to someone here, perhaps? What is it?

No one here would be interested- it's a foglight lense/assembly (waits for pitchforks etc).

That is, to be fair, what I thought. In giving me the chance to get out of it he is doing the decent thing, just wondering if £5 is really what it costs to list the part really.

If the listing has ended and you’d like to withdraw from the purchase for any reason, you should explain the situation to your seller and ask them to agree to mutual withdrawal from the sale.
If they agree, they can file an Unpaid Item Dispute and state that you both agreed to withdraw from the sale. They’ll then receive a credit for the fees they were charged when you won the item. In addition, as long as they state you both agreed to withdraw from the sale, and you confirm this when asked by eBay, you won't get an Unpaid Item Strike against your account.

I bought the frame, now he doesn't want to sell for the price

Hey, resurrecting this thread...

I bid and won a Colnago frame last night. I haven't paid yet, but received an email from the seller saying although I won it, it went for less than he wanted (The 'made-up' reserve in his head).

He didn't offer me any options.
What's the deal here?

A. I let the item go - is there a way he can remove the item and do something in his account so I don't get the 'pay for this item' message (I never sold anything on eBay so don't know what tools are available)

B. Try and push to get the item - although I lose trust quickly in these situations and will wonder if its properly packed etc...

Had a look through QA's on ebay, but didn't find an immediate answer.

Cheers for the help,
Kam

That's his fault for not setting a reserve.

You can pay for it and then go through a dispute process which will most likely result in you getting a refund and no bike or you can say "you sir, are a cunt" and leave it at that.

Personally, I would pay for it and then dispute his non-shipment, etc. but I haz money set aside for this kind of vindictive behaviour..

Thanks for the response Hippy. If I go down the "you sir, are a cunt" route, can he withdraw the sale so I don't have the 'pay for item' message?

As soon as it is in your eBay account as sold to you, he / she is obliged to provide the item... especially if you have paid for it.

How much feedback does this person have? If it's quite a bit, then pay for the item and wait for it. He/She won't want eBay to close their account because of refusing to sell an item.

not much feedback (24) but all seems good.
Point is, say I am relieved to not be buying it...and agree to a no-sale... can he remove the friggin 'pay for item' message?

If you don't want to buy it and he doesn't want to sell it, just ignore the message.

F-k paying for it, he'll have your money then. Just call him out on the feedback and leave it at that.

I negged someone so bad on eBay that he deleted his account, dude was a power seller to the power 8000 or something crazy. I felt like a real man.

Just delete the item from your won section. You can change the flag to payment sent or something else if it really bugs you.

If it is that one then he's fucking dreaming if he thinks he'll get more than £235 for that.

Four Colnago Super frames sold on eBay in the last week, before yours.

Prices were £200, £200, £205 and £240

What was the seller's expectation on price?

Man, you should charge a consultation fee to help buyers get stuff on the bay. He said he couldn't part with it for less than £250 (£15 quid - how petty).

I don't particularly want it now I won a Chesini yesterday as well... never bid hungover...

So, then, just leave it be. You don't want it and he doesn't want to sell it. Job done, case closed.

The seller has the power to select "buyer and seller mutually agreed not proceed with the transaction" or something, which would then send yourself an email to confirm that's the case... then the item sale disappears.

Also, eBay is still just a "meeting ground" for buyers and sellers legally, so I personally wouldn't pay for something that the seller doesn't want to get rid of... endless trouble.

Tell him to cancel the auction and you'll send him £235 as a PayPal gift.

It costs you the same, and he'll pocket the same as if sold for £250 via eBay with the fees.
