| | Your Car History... Just following on from the Car Appreciation Thread, what cars have people actually owned? It seems from reading the thread that a lot of people have either owned or driven some very nice cars. My list looks like this (not always in chronological order and not that impressive really, but it's only fair I go first:) Volkswagen Polo MKII (Country) Volkswagen Polo MKII (Fox) Volkswagen Polo 1.1 (MKIII) Volkswagen Golf VR6 4-Motion (MKIV) BMW M3 (E36) Subaru Impreza RB5 (With full pro-drive kit + other toys) Renault Clio 172 (Great Car!!) Fiat Seicento Sporting Vauxhall Astra VXR Those have come and gone but i've always owned one of these in addition and kept them for longer: 1973 Volkswagen Camper 1967 Volkswagen Camper ('Built' 2.4ltr Type 4 engine (Porsche cooling etc), Porche 944 disc-brake conversion, balljoint beam, independent rear suspension, 'built' gearbox, lowered) 1964 Volkswagen Type 3 saloon. Now, I have been carless for over six months and i think it may stay that way, for a good while at least! So, what have you all had? |

| | It was summer 1985, We were very much in love but her addiction to lead and constant straying from the line just proved to much for me. i see myself as an understanding type, i never asked for much.. I was there for the frolics in the sea spray, the slipping on ice and long days baking under the sun on those mazy routes down to the coast.. But she refused to tow the line, after time she got dirtier and insisted on rough handling, from there she got lose around the seals and started smoking heavily. I just couldn’t see us moving on! Deflated and taxed she left me for a younger driver and his group of friends. Life throws some tough decisions in its path and I made mine, in hindsight well oiled firm handling tight reared older model is right up my alley. Sadly I left her down hers. |

'97 Mini Spi Works Cooper S - Japanese import ![]() '57 Porsche 356A GS/GT - Not technically mine (Dad's) but worth a mention, currently undergoing restoration... word of advice, be careful buying one, parts are extortionately expensive!! |

| | Just the one - 2000 reg Mini Cooper Sport in British Racing Green (wish I had a picture, it's gorgeous). Had it from new and we've been through many things together. Now sitting in my parents garage until my dad sorts it out to sell for me (if you want it, it doesn't have an MOT at the moment, has a few spots of rust around the sills and headlights, and will cost you £5k - they don't make them anymore, hence the price). |

| | Fiat uno fire 1000. Sick car. Well designed little car but did not like damp mornings. Fiat van, bit bigger than a uno. Diesel 1.7. Wicked sports / work van. Cold sleep two in the back in relative comfort. Renault 19 Prima 1.9 D. Work horse. So many miles, carried so much stuff, toe many a varied load. 54 mpg. Peugeot 306 1.9 D. Much more comfortable! but similar to the Renault in work horse type duties. 55 mpg What more could you want form a car? Good mpg, cheap to insure, can carry bikes and plenty of other stuff, add a draw bar and .roof rack for more adaptability. . |

| | Fiat 126, 652cc's of blazing straight twin muscle. 0-60 took around 45 seconds. Advantage was that when the fuses blew (daily, often hourly- finally replaced the fuses with one pence coins) you could signal left by sticking your hand out of the left hand window. Also it could park nose-on to the curb. Now I have a Volvo, the bonnet of which is bigger than the whole of the Fiat. I can fit bikes in this one however. |

| | First was a yellow ex-BT Metro van with a carpet in the back (2 seater sports car). Then when I was 20 I thought I could afford anything so bought a MkI Renault 5 Turbo. Insurance was £120 a MONTH. The head gasket blew and warped the head two years later so I picked up a low mileage white 1987 1.3 Metro, which I had for 9 years until someone nicked it. I then bought a limited edition RSP Mini Cooper, produced in 1990 with only 1650 cars for the UK market. To this day I still have it, although the missus keeps wanting me to get rid of it (family). ![]() And finally 2 1/2 years ago I bought a black Golf Plus 1.9 TDi. I love it. The missus hates it. |

| | £550 fully comp if you're a member of the owners club, you can put whichever engine you like in them (tend to be xflow, zetecs, fiat/lancia/alfa twin cams) which are easy to maintain and fiddle around with, what's the point in having a kit-car if you're not planning on getting your hands dirty?! |

| | Used to have one of these: Ginetta G32 ![]() Mid engined so was a lot of fun around corners. Even took it hillclimbing once. Not technically a kit-car as they were factory-made, but they needed to be maintained like one. Also used to have quite a few minis. I'm married now... |

| | http://pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&f=174 Look at the amount of bike threads on that car forum. If we are to make this solely a forum where we can talk about FGSS bikes, it's gonna be pretty boring as the majority of topics have been covered already, there will be the occasional post about a ride coming up, or someone asking for help where the response will be "use the search function" and as a result people will stop coming on here and it will no longer be of much use. |

| | Bringing a "bike threads in a car forum" argument into it is mostly counterproductive to yourself as it might suggest cars weren't doing it for people even on their own forums. But I don't care about car forums really. Fixed bikes are still doing it for me really well on here thanks very much. Cars are cars are cars. Get over it if you're on this forum. One thread is really all you need to paste massive photos of lovely examples and even get nostalgic about the cars you've owned. Really, it's lame and crap. |

| | yeah, but this was a "cars you've owned" thread, but it's turning into another "car porn" thread... FWIW i've owned three boring cars: a 1987 Corolla, a 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer, and a 1997 Subaru Liberty wagon (Legacy estate). I love the subaru though, it's fricking awesome. |

| | I guess the point is that anyone can start a thread on any topic as long as it doesn't duplicate another thread: so if this one is just a list of cars that people have owned, fine. But for general discussion of cars the other thread should be used. I'm just jealous though because I thought I'd cornered the market in starting car threads. |
