done a few searches but am looking for opinions.... xmas money will be used for a new chainset and bb. running an old roadbike double chainset with the 39tooth ring at the moment and an isis bottom bracket. it saved me buying a cheap chainset when i built the bike in the summer...

options im considering (feel free to suggest...)

sugino 75 (130 pounds tokyo fixed gear)

sugino grand mighty (is this noticably different from the regular 75/ worth extra 18pounds?)

dura ace 7600 (good price it seems on parker)

looking to run either a 46 or 48 tooth ring.... (thinking 46x17 to compliment my 15tooth for a 70ish and 80ish gear inch options)

is the dura ace at 115 a bargain? or am i better springing for the 75?

Very, very sadly, the Suntour Superbe Pro Track Cranks are no longer made.

http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/n...beProTrack.jpg

More is the pity.

Suntour do still make some single speed cranks, but they're not worth it, compared to what they used to make.
But if you do want them, then check here and go to page 58. The importers to the UK are Moore-Large.

Apologies for the newb question - and if it's in the wrong place - but if the drive-side crank becomes loose on the spindle of a GXP crankset, is it completely kaput?

If you pedal while the crank is loose.. it will generally round the square taper edges or destroy the splines of ISIS/Octalink, etc. So, to answer, possibly.

Thanks hippy - it's not been ridden much since I discovered the drive-side had some play in it, but my confusion was that there doesn't seem to be any way to tighten it regardless. The non-drive side is fine (and always has been) and I can't tighten that any more than it already is.

I'd always thought the spindles were meant to be integrated solid on drive-side ofthese GXPs, so I was a bit surprised when I took it out and found I could move it in the crank arm with my fingers.

I guess I'll just run it into the ground whilst I get a new one sorted...

Hubjub Sugino 75 black price is out of date - they want £168 now, and they don't have 165mm. TFG do and are now cheaper at £165. Condor have both lengths for £145, but not over the internet unfortunately.

I can vouch for totalcycling too - they still seem to be cheapest for silver 75s at £129.99. Hubjub now £148 for silver.

Alright - cash is a bit of a hindrance for me, wrecked my cranks by pedalling with a loose bolt (which eventually pinged off into a drain)

Nice options here, although planet X have the Stronglight Mygal Messenger Track Chainset which looks like it'll do the job. £50 - nice

http://www.planet-x-warehouse.co.uk/...nsets_182.html

I ride 170s at the moment - toeclips keep hitting the floor so Im tempted my 165s - any benefits of a shorter crank?

Im thinking of getting those too but theyve run out of silver chainring ones! I already ride 165's Im only 5'8 so they are technically better suited to me. Shorter cranks makes it easier to spin which is useful for fixed riding. However you get a reduction of leverage so standing/hill starts will be tougher.
