| | Looking for a front brake for my first fixed (not bought yet but have my eye on an old track frame to convert). Can anyone recommend a good lever/caliper combination? Looking for a horizontal, flat bar type rather than one mounted on the drops. Also someone mentioned that track forks can't take the stresses of braking. Any thoughts would be valuable. Cheers |

| | If you've got a 25.5mm MTB flat bar, then Gold Fingers/Dirty Harrys/Tech 77s BMX Levers work well (needs to be for 1" bars and not 7/8's), nice and solid. Can also find lots of old mountain bike cantilever brake levers that work great (most of the modern stuff though is for V-brakes which won't work). Can't beat a 105/Tektro for price and stopping power. If you've got a fancy track frame with rounded fork blades (proper round ones, not just oval) then they weren't designed for brakes. However, unless you're a monster or riding lightweight fancy tubing you probably won't have any issues. As most proper track forks aren't drilled for brakes anyway, the odds of this being an issue are small. |
