Fitness Race Partner/s wanted

I need to get fitter, and I would like some competition to do so/make me do it.

So- who would like to have a race to fitness?

I'm thinking we start from the here and now and agree a target in say six months, the target being a race of some sort.

Then regular training sessions/races until we get there.

Winner takes all, naturally.

I'm open to a small wager to make life interesting also.

If you wish- would we have to cycle to the ring and then settle it like Gentlemen?

Open to anything really- just, as I have the spine of a mollusc, need some motivation.

To give you an idea:
32 years of age.
13 stone and 6'2".
Resting heart rate of 68.
Cycle (trash mileage) around 50/60 miles a week.

£50 sound like a decent wager?

I may sound churlish but I think we might need to have a current fitness reading of all combatants taken now to adjust the odds...

There are loads of Triathlons throughout the year- I'd be up for a standard Tri.

this sounds very interesting and I may be up for this. I've always wanted to do a triathlon. How many times a week would we look at training?

I'll have a think about it, this clearly needs a bit of structure of some sort.
Could we list postcodes so we can get an idea of where we all are?

Ahh, you spotted that in Triathlon you just run with the bike between your legs like a hobby horse?

No, we'd have to cycle into the ring (how you get through the ropes will denote your extra style points awarded by a panel of judges) then glove up and duke it out all the while maintaining a no-handed trackstand and slaughtering as many puppies as possible. The loser has to then ceremonially destroy their most treasured bike (a more financially disturbing prospect for you than me quite possibly) using nothing but their battered and bloodied face.

oh, and the 50 notes should be a good incentive.

To be fair when I started this thread my thoughts were these:
-We each train individually
-Every month we compete to see where we are against one another
-At the end we compete together for the pot

I thought that this would get around the geographical separation that is inevitable.
However- the benefit of training together cannot be ignored, and I have been (very pleasantly) surprised by the number of people willing to do so.
Plus Aaron wanting to fight me- but we can do that separately to this.

So- a triathlon is not set as the final competition, for one I loathe running, so would prefer something else. The Sussex tri was convenient because of the date.

It would mean that we could do something similar to this though:
Monday: South Drinks
Tuesday: South East Drinks
Wednesday: Swim 1,500 metres
Thursday; Run 10K
Friday: John Snow
Saturday: 25 miles on the bike
Sunday: 50 Miles on the bike

Repeat.

Thoughts?

(BTW pot is £250 so far....)
