Does anyone have a matt white or black Fuji Track? Reckon it would look good matt white with stock parts?

mine's a DIY, ratbike version of matte black - tidy enough to rag around for 15 miles a day in the grim manchester weather

hiya, im afraid this might be a cringeworthy mong question.
However, ive had a search and have had no luck.

Basically i have a 56cm fuji track, and plan on building it up with some better components after i have the frame resprayed.

Im looking for a new stem, as the stock one is hideous, and was wondering what anyone would recommend?

am looking for something similar to:




size wise? what should i be after? the steerer i presume is 1 1/8? What size stem should i be looking for?

As far as I understand, that's a quill stem for threaded forks/headsets, Fuji tracks are unthreaded ahead stems so I'm not too sure you could use a quill stem with the stock forks.

That's a Fuji Track above. In fact, it's my Fuji Track. They come with quill stems.

That's a replacement Cinelli stem, which I'd recommend. The frame is the only stock part on that bike. Since that pic I've added a rear brake, freewheel and drop bars with Shimano 600 levers.

yeah my plan is to just use the frame, build it up from there.
and for a short while the wheelset until i can afford something a tad nicer.

The stem you've used is exactly what im looking for, what cinelli stem is it? details please.

what year is it? the 08 and 09 came with threadless (ie you cant use that stem) - does yours have a silver or black strem? if it's black you cant out one of those on (racist).

yeah mine is an 09, so that would make it threadless.

I used the bike as bought for a long time, including some longer rides. Bit by bit, stuff went to the big parts bin in the sky, and I replaced it with better kit.

Eventually I had a powdercoat job and replaced the remaining gear. A good way of doing it, I thought, and one that doesn't sting the wallet all at once.

It's now being used on a 50-mile commute on rought country roads. For a track bike, it's had a funny history...

I'd always planned on getting a new frame eventually, but I wouldn't change it at all now. Cracking bike.

Not exactly sure what the stem is, because it's in the garage right now. I keep that stem/bar/lever/grips in one piece, and a drop/levers/stem, too - then I can change quickly without messing with bar tape.

I'll take a look tomorrow and let you know.

but you'll need 11/8 threaded forks and a 11/8 threaded headset - this may be an issue...

haha yeah, thinking like a mong, completely ignored the fact that as an 09 it would be 1 1/8

I vaguely recall there may be an adapter for 1" forks

bought a fuji track 08 that is too big to me (56 cm) and am thinking of selling it
would i be able to put together a cheap vintage build form the funds?!

send it back and ask for a smaller one instead.

would get rims as they seem a bit shaky while dropping of curbs and what not.
and am about to stick some bmx pedals and footstraps onto it.

My 56 Fuji Track 08 for your 58 (or bigger)

I have a very nice 08 Fuji Track in a 56. Problem being is that it's a little too small. If on the off chance anyone has the same, but bigger and would be keen to trade let me know.

No need for now, thanks to those who got in touch. I've now sorted myself out with a 58 and I'm selling my 56 on Sunday. Win.
