east ----> west

cornelius did have a point regarding the traditional E->W, W->E change around that has usually gone on with these rides.


Regardless I want it to go East -> West for a few reasons.

On Saturday nights I come down from seeing my daughter, who lives in North Finchley.
I don't want to bust my ass to get to what should be a chilled-easy ride. Did it before and it was not much fun.

It is more convenient for the majority of people to meet up central on the river bank, have a few cans, chat then set off.
It is also easy to get to even if you are a total London novice.

I personally prefer to ride through all the action in the City/West End then out to the quieter suburbs.

Getting back from Kew can be also be done as a group.
Since I live central I am more than happy to show/take people with me back into town, as would many others.

There are only about two stretches of busy roads on this ride so it is a good social ride that anyone can do.
The time of night makes riding out there even more pleasant.

but ma3k, what about the tradition.
if the ride is always east to west, then it means its just another ride/event that starts out east.
I live south so its going to take just as much time to go either east or west, but part of the beauty of the bridges ride is that it starts where the last one finished, therefore is impartial in a sense, well as impartial as any of our rides can be.
Doing a ride the same way everytime starts to bore after a while, and its only every other bridges ride which would start out west, how many times do we do the bridges ride, twice, three times a year?
Personally I'd prefer the ride to start out west,
a it would give people a bit of a run out of town to stretch their legs, see a different part of town
b a change is as good as a rest.
c there's a big green and pub out by kew bridge so you can do early bird drinking there if you so desire
d its tradition dagnammit, and as much as I love the run east to west, I also like and enjoy the run west to east.

10 o'clock start and ride east to west. You know it makes sense.

either way i dont think or anyone really gives a fuck. how many extra miles is it... where are the majority of people...change, why change the format.... la la la the list goes on.

Let's have two rides and we can yell 'splitters' at the other group as and when we see them?

I'm all for democracy, but who needs a poll for deciding if what has always happened should continue to happen, bridges goes from east to west, and then the next time from west to east, simple.
When your playing polo no one says lets have a poll to decide if we still want to tap back in when we score a goal, its the rules, it was decided by someone and it continues to be.
If we go east to west this time, next time should be t'other way, no ifs or ands ( at this point I shrug my shoulders in a gallic way to signify, what will be will be, and if I'm on this ride I'll go wherever, but for the record have stated my objection in a non hissy fit having way, but a slightly weary can't one thing not start east or centrally kind of way.. or ;-P

What's shootthebreeze got? I need me a light. The Backupz I was using on the Docklands ride were properly shit for lighting up anything further than a foot in front of my front wheel.

Quite a few of the long rides start in south london. And really, it doesn't matter at all, we're all gonna end up riding the same miles whatever whoever (ma3k i guess) decides.

I think you're all being a bit unfair. MA3K called the ride, has family commitments during the day, so wants to to the ride east to west. I think you should cut some slack and do the ride as he suggests. I understand tradition, but in my book my kid beats tradition hands down :0)

You can always just ride west-east the next two occasions to even it up!

I should just point out, that I have no problems with ma3k changing the direction of the ride for this one, cause he wants to spend a bit more time with his child, I'm all good with that, just don't want the ride to always be from east to west is all, its the alternation I like about it, makes it more interesting.
