| | Has anyone truly built a beater? Everytime I set out to build one, for riding to the shops, locking and not worrying, the project eventually gets off course. It starts with searching for cheap mid level used frames and parts but soon strays and becomes a quest to create porn. So now it's cheap highend equipment. Super Record this, NJS that, as much NOS as possible. And when done there's a beautiful bike but not one you'd want to leave anywhere unattended. So I'm right back where I started. Am I just lacking self control? Am I the only one? |

| | No one would steal the cuntster.. it's fuckin' ugly.. that was the intention. It's not exactly a beater though coz that muppet murtle decided barboned up forks would be a good idea :) If it does get nicked.. I can't wait to show the insurance guys the photos of the bike :) |

| | if you start off by calling it a project, your headed for trouble. why the fck are they called projects anyway? is this business talk creeping into the scene? do people call it a project so that they can put it in their CVs? just build a bike to ride. full stop. |

| | I had a beater, I beat it and it bent. Now I'm going to start riding the Bridgestone all the time. Bit of a jump but to be honest I' m quite glad it happened as now I might actually get my moneys worth out of the Bridge. It's either that or literally get my moneys worth by selling it and build something less keirin. (But still nice) |

I think the most expensive thing on it was the cranks for a fiver. The frame is so bent sometimes the back wheel scrubs the right seatstay and the left chainstay. When that happens I just kick the rim back straight again. | |

| | I've gone on a different tack... Used to ride everywhere on old MTB. Got an ebay road bike, old MTB became the beater. Got a newer frame, old frame gets second rate parts and becomes the beater, MTB gets it's gears back and a bit of a clean up. Next logical step... Get new frame again...etc. |

| | The last beater project started fine and cheap. £11 for a KHS frame with all the small bits. ![]() Then lucked into a pair of cheap tied & soldered wheels. ![]() And just like that it's no longer a beater project because those wheels can't go with that frame. Off course again. Last edited by dmczone; 13th September 2008 at 15:12.. |
