Surely that would never work fixed. When would you be able to change gear?

Ah, then that makes sense.

No experience... but keen to hear what it is like. Already thinking how crazy it might be to pair it with a Rohloff.

These cranks were also combined with a schlumpf hub to create a geared unicycle.

The design allowed the crank caps to be pushed with the foot, one to change up, the other to change down a gear.

Why do people seem to yearn for muti speed gears, bells & whistles on there "I like it because its simple" singlespeed / fixed wheels ?

this schlumpf bottom bracket gearing is like £300, a Rohloff around £800

I understand the interest in Sturmey's, something old simple, hard as nails and engrained in cycling heritage. AND CHEAP/FREE..

But spending £1100 on bespoke new fangled gearing which you wont be able to fix when it breaks, is hardly in the spirit of what "fixed gear & singlespeed" is about?
