are you even serious?? Apples and pears - really. This has got to be a wind up.
If its not:
1/8 for track components
3/32 for road

strictly 1" pitch baby

I went to Holland's National Bike Museum in Nijmegen recently, that had this brilliant display of all different stages of chain development... the 100+ year old ones were made, like flippin Mbike chains or ammo belts

Firstly if you have a rear sprocket already, that pretty much settles what chain you should run. But..

I use 3/32 for my bike running 52-19, with road chainring. For that much chain it feels right to have a thinner chain. Flus its a flexy old big raleigh so it all suits.

On my newer stiffer small bike with 39-15 gearing, 1/8 chain made a lot more sense, especially as a bmx chain works out the perfect size. That bike feels well smooth, silent responsive drivetrain.

So its kind of evolved into a rule now for me, if a standard bmx chain wont wrap the gearing then its a 3/32. It also makes more sense for larger road rings as they are relativeley weak and flexy compared to the chain.

is it me or does nothing here make sense?!?

-road 3/32 u can still use a 1/8 if u like
-more flexy frame a 1/8 would allow more side to side movement
-silence in drivetrain is dependent on many factor
-bmx chains or 1/8 chain come in various length ie from 102 links to 112
-road rings weak,??

+1

I had no trouble using a 'bmx' chain on a 51/20 setup, even had to take 1 link out, standard kmc.

I use 1/8th cause I wanna be cool and the gang, but I'm gonna switch to 3/8th motorbike chain cause I want to be cooler and even more gang.

I like 3/32. The numbers look nicer on the screen I think.
