That's a genuinely interesting point - I may have read too much into that, but it seems to suggest that the whole point of doing it is some kind of appeasement, aimed at men who feel threatened. If I was in that position, I'd like to say 'bugger it - if you feel threatened, that's your problem not mine.' Do you see where I'm going here? It doesn't seem to be for the 'woman's' benefit - it seems to be to help men feel more comfortable with the fact they're talented and physically fit - like a 'I may be a world class athlete, but don't worry - I'm still a little woman underneath it all...'

[...]Arguably the sexualisation of the image is in the eye of the beholder.
That makes a lot of sense - seems to be a more 'personal' reason for doing it.

There's a story about that - she was only 17 when that shot was taken, and since then she's been leached over constantly. She never wanted the attention and is trying to avoid the media spotlight now - to the point her performance as an athlete is suffering. It's a shame it's come to that, but it's useful to have that human insight into what was, up until recently, a picture of an attractive pole vaulter.

that's very sad if it's true. The fact that her abhorrence of it makes her so much more attractive to me means she now has to contend with two contingents of pathetic loser.

i'm sorry that so many people find her un attractive but any woman who rides like that and gets away with looks like that is ok in my book. and the to the people who think she's degraded herself or that people are being sexist about it i say if it brings publicity to a sport that is under appreciated then all the better.

Yes, it was.

I have to say this whole thing about criticising her looks seems more than a little off. She's an attractive woman and very successful in what she does, and she's damned sight more real than the airbrushed airheads who adorn the lads' mags.

I think the use of a modern trek geared bike spoils any classic look of those pictures. Fair enough lance is a road rider, but Victoria should of been on her timeless black simple & mean track bike.

I also think that she is rather attractive, although Id be scared she would crush my nob in her muscly vagina.

Not that it's in any way interesting, but I think she's pretty. I also think I fancy her more because she's good at something. Talented girls make for attractive girls.

Also, if the female athletes concerned aren't worried about doing photoshoots and playing the media game then I don't think anyone else needs to be.

True but the leading example of hot on the field, less so off the field. Pendleton is lucky to not look like an excited horse in the interview room.
