Once out of the London bowl I would describe the profile as 'rolling'.

Whiskey in Rye 28th September

If it's as good as Brighton run, will be epic.
Skully you've still got plenty of time to change that back sprocket ! -:)
Need to decide date today/tomorrow so I can book day off work. I'd prefer 28th.

yesterday Jonny and I did this ride, pretty much the same route Sam posted up.
(I'm down in Rye for a few days and lacking in much internet)

the wind was grim and made it quite hard work, but i will say if anyone who's not done any long rides is planning on this you better get training, it's hilly all the way. no maaaasive climbs just a few biggies to get into kent then slightly more than "rolling" then rolling the last 20 miles.

not the easiest ride I've ever done at all, and TBH I'd be looking for a different route next time.

would have been lovely on gears.

thanks for the tow Gentlemen Jonny !

almost the same..

we had some small errors ;)
and i decided to go straight down to rye from wadhurst-ticehurst-hawkhurst, the A-road is quite small and that section was nice and fast. the bit between westerham and wadhurst before that was the tricky bit with the navigation.

I'd be inclined to push the whole route eastwards..

I dunno, some of the scenery was pretty cracking though

rpm's hit it spot on. we had the wind giving us a bit of hassle but mainly you have to be ready to go through rolling territory with a couple of longer climbs digging into you a bit.

it's a great route and everyone should be up for it with a little htfu for those that haven't put a few miles under their belt.

other shit impending i will definitely be doing this ride. rpm and myself have seen off miles like this before and that helps. but this is within reach of many with the right attitude.

I was just going to suggest filling up the water bottle with htfu, it isn't the Pyrenees.

I can't wait.

Well, it could be done. The route could go past Kent east of Tonbridge through Kent's flatlands and home of many Oast houses and onwards towards Goudhurst, then east of Bewl Water. It'll definitely be hillier before and after that section though.

it certainly isn't! all the hills are easy do-able. big group on a calm day will fly.

I just think anyone planning to ride 50/14 brakeless straight outa hoxton for their first long ride will suffer.

it's ok for us to say HTFU when we're ten miles ahead and feeling fine, but I foresee a slog for the unfit. preperation is important (not like my ten pints at south beers) especially if you have that fucker of a wind. then again, I am rather old.

as for the route, Sam's right, there's no hill-dodging, wherever you go, but you needn't do the horrible coombe road/gravel hill bit that we did. come out of London through crystal palace and annerly instead.

But these rides are very rarely the "fall behind, you are on your own" type.

If someone struggles we always park up and wait. Will be a good outing.
