Women could carry salt in their pockets to throw at an attacker. The salt, being a natural product, could not be construed to be a weapon. The fact that salt in the eyes would make anyone have to stop what they're doing, so as to try to get the salt out, still can't be used against the "victim", as if they used a chemical attack on another person. Anyone can buy a small bag of salt, and keep it in their pockets.

the bag of salt becomes a weapon if you carry if with the intention of using at a weapon.

It also depends on context; if someone came at you with a knife and you used your door closer, fair enough, reasonable force, but if they attacked you with a spoon: ya going down.

Best off using a yale key into an eye.
