In a few weeks I'll be setting off for the Netherlands, where I don't know a soul or a lick of Dutch. Are there any other forumengers presently stationed there? I've been before, although only for a few days at a time, so I need some advice.

Firstly, I assume the canal belt, Jordaan, etc., will be relatively out of my price range for accommodation, so what's a nice place to stay that won't break the bank? What's a reasonable price for rent? Flatmates or one bedroom?

I'm a freelance journalist, and just found out that my main magazine client is folding, effective immediately, I've got some cash saved up + some contacts in the city, although they are mostly big-name advertising and creative agencies, but I'm going to need to find another source of stable income. Courier-work would be ideal, but lack of comprehension in Dutch will probably be a barrier. Does anyone know of good work for native English speakers? Willing to do anything pretty much, outside of construction and prostitution.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

In 2010, I was looking to go on some sort of cycling holiday,

My idea was that it would be on one of these 'supported' rides, where a bike and van-support is included, somewhere warm, in europe, like spain.

Does anyone have any experience of any of the online agents and companies who specialise in these types of holiday? and any recommendations of a company or location to go for...???

potentially looking for a week to 2 weeks of challenging road cycling, fitness not really an issue, jut looking to cycle some good roads, get some good weather and get some good beer.

any urls or recomendations welcomed,
anyone done anything like this in the past?

Cheers

So I'm being shipped off to Copenhagen for a month to work on a project for the COP15 UN summit.

I need to know how expensive it is there, I've looked online and it seems to be one of the most expensive places in Europe if not the world.

My boss is offering me an extra £300 expenses for a month. Now normally I have about £500 spending/saving money in London after bills, rent, and general outgoings like food shopping. So while I'm not rolling in it by any means, I get by. I obviously don't want to make any sacrifices in terms of lifestyle and going out while I'm there, so what I need to know is can you actually have a decent social life, and eat out two or three times a week, have a few pints in a pub after work, watch films, go out, etc. for the princely sum of around 6500 DKK a month? Or should I really be asking for more expense money?

My accommodation will be taken care of, I just don't want to be sitting at home watching Danish X-Factor because I haven't been precocious enough to make a correct demand on my work.

On the Upside I will be bringing a bike and look forward to meeting the Copenhagen fixed crew. Maybe Polo and some rides will be happening in the month from 20Nov- 20 Dec?

Hey Big People.

As some of you may or may not know, I took redundancy from work, and am planning on travelling the world with a bike, for the next year or so.
This thread is for you to keep in contact with me, if I haven't invited you to the book of face group, devoted to my travels.
And also for you to give me:
hints/tips/suggestions/people to hang with/floors to crash on/forums to join/things I absolutely cannot miss, in the various locales I'll be seeing as I'm all over our glorious globe.

Below is my current itinerary, think of it as a work in progress, I know approximate dates when I'd like to be somewhere, but no tickets have been booked and its down to me renting my flat as well.

I'm hoping to leave these shores end of november, beginning of december. Don't worry there will be some sort of Bright Times inspired leaving party type thing, so you can bid me a fond fare thee well.

So put useful info here and I'll be forever in your debt.

Current Rough Itinerary

Tokyo - Osaka
Hong Kong
Thailand
Melbourne
Sydney
New Zealand
Buenos Aires
Rio De Janeiro
Barbados
Jamaica
Miami
Los Angeles
Las Vegas
San Francisco
Seattle
