Someone, on a thread dealing with Pompinos, posted a link to a web page that, using any two of these three variables (trail, rake, or axle to crown height) would give you the third. It was a very handy little application for nerding out. Anyone have it?

Actually... It may have used head tube angle as well... Hrm.

Also, in the same thread, someone said you gain or lose 0.7 degrees per CM in fork height. How does rake affect this? Anyone know?

I managed to pop the downtube shifter braze on off my rick powell tt frame and wondered if I can reattach it without requiring a respray?
There are various metal epoxy glues that claim to be as good as brazing but I'm sceptical.
Could I get it re-brazed without damage?
Anyone got any experience of this most disappointing of situations?

Hi,

One of the links on my chain has snapped (just on one side luckily so nothing major).

It has done what I would consider to be very light mileage, what could be the cause of this breakage?

My chain line is good, the chain is a TAYA 1/8 model that I got from halfords probably cost around £10.

Any Ideas?

As a side issue, what chains are considered reliable and where is the best place to buy them in the East London/ Bank area?

thanks

What I was thinking has anyone done that?

Was thinking about fitting spacers below the bottom cup/above the fork stem joint to raise the forks so the pedals will have some clearance to actually complete a revolution. Or is this a drug adled stuipidity that should be left alone.

Thanks for the help and advice.

well, 2 weeks ago i got a new headset i had to put 2mm of spacers between fork crown and caliper as my lower headset cup stuck out too much. hmm methinks, i should get a longer sunken nut for that. so yesterday, i order one (£4 from http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/M...?ModelID=17557) and stupidly think i'll be ok. go for the commute today. at a busy junction, luckily slow down with legs til almost stopped, grab a handful of front brake and bam! the end of the bolt strips, i get very shocked as i see the caliper falling out of the fork. and end up not unclipping and fall to the floor, luckily all cars are stopped or moving very slowly so don't get run over. phew! followed by an agonising walk to nearest bike shop (cycle surgery in west hampstead) wondering if they will have/even know what a sunken nut is. very nice mechanic looks thru his boxes of stuff and finds me one - for free.

so, word to the wise, make sure there is a good length of sunken nut holding on your brake caliper or you may suffer injury or death.

I gave my chain a clean and re-grease over the weekend, and since then I've found the drivetrain has been feeling really stiff - as if I'd changed up to a bigger gear ratio. The really odd thing is that it isn't constant, I can ride into work and it feels really bad and then ride home and it feels okay, and today it changed over the course of the ride in.

The chain was scrubbed in warm water and fairy liquid, then wiped down, oiled and given a light coat of GT85. I've tried putting a bit more oil on and loosening the bb cup very slightly (it's an old racer with the original cup and cone/cottered setup) but that hasn't made much difference.

Any ideas? My legs are starting to complain about the extra work...

Hey,
Bought a frame with the intention of building up a bike for my g/f as a xmas present. Stupidly, as I was in a rush to pick it up and get back home, didn't check it out properly before buying it. (I'm an idiot, I know, I know, I'm allready kicking myself for it) I knew the general condition was a bit knackered but failed to spot a fairly large dent in the downtube. I've sanded back the rust to check how bad it was. I also put a straight edge against it to check if the whole tube was bent, seems to be out by a few mm. The whole things gaspipe, not butted tubing or anything like that.

So, is it a junker? I've had a google and some people say the downtube isn't as important as the others because it's under tension not compression, but obviously I don't want to risk it if it could be dangerous, especially as it's not for me. I can save the headset, forks and bb if I scrap it, unless anyone would be happy to use it for something?
