Rider Down... Bethnal Green. Tuesday morning

Hi,

Hi,

My friend was knocked of her bike on Tuesday morning in Bethnal Green/Shoreditch area, by all accounts right outside the Tea building, just down from BLB/tres garcon/club row /shoreditch house. The guy was pulling out of the building site that is part of the rail link works.

He pulled out and hit her a glancing blow I presume, as he hit her so hard he knocked one of her shoes ten feet up the road, and knocked her out cold. How she isn't more damaged I am amazed and very very relieved, though she is super tuff...she is a punk drummer and general hard ass. She was out cold for about 4-5 minutes during which time a crowd had gathered and were helping her. When she came to, she, I presume was in a little shock as she got straight up, and decided not to be late for work. She got the guy to give her £50 for her wheel and she left. ( as it is it has fucked her wheel, crank and forks...)
I am not sure what happened next as she decided to lock up her bike and go and catch a bus to work. Later on that evening she went to brick lane bikes (I think)to get a front wheel to cycle home, When they saw her front wheel (26' mtb) they were like WTF?

I am just appealing to anyone that may have witnessed it as when I saw her tonight she recanted the story whilst I looked on incredulously. She doesn't have the details of the driver, the make of the car, the number plate ...anything. She doesn't seem hurt or dazed at all (just heavily bruised) and worked a long shift for the rest of the day it happened, so think she is ok...however now she has accepted £50 I don't think she can ask/get anymore money, and the forks are twatted and the left crank was bent. I have ridden it and found this out for her. so she is already out of pocket on her crank and forks...

however...and it's a huge however...I know for him to have knocked her off her bike and knocked her out...he would have had to have hit her really hard, she really is bullet proof and couriered for a while. So in the event anything does go wrong in the future, we have some/any details of the incident that she has any sort of back up.

I/we don;t want a witch hunt...just some details if anyone has them.

if you see any obvious typos then shout me and I will edit accordingly. I haven't started a thread yet and don't know the drill.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance

Pia

Just saw this, about 14:50 on Parkhurst Road.

Female rider on a black dutch bike. According to a motorcyclist who stopped to call the ambulance she was bombing it down Parkhurst road with no helmet and tried to hop onto the curb from the bus lane at about 20 mph and goes straight over the hadlebars face-first into the pavement.

I stopped to just see what was going on but there was already a few people around, one guy on the phone to 999 and a couple of people trying to speak to her.

She wasn't moving except for a some small finger movements (arms were splayed out) and there was a lot of blood around her face/head. One person was holding a tissue to the back of her head.

I didn't see her face and don't think she was completely conscious.

Couldn't really make myself useful so just rode-on feeling a bit sick.

Hope she heals up ok and hasn't fucked-up her teeth or anything.

So I got knocked off my bike by a cab this evening. I was riding on my road, almost home, with my girlfriend. I was alongside her and we were coming up to a width restriction when a car behind tooted his horn. He was gesticulating wildly for me to get out of his way so I told him to jog on and we kept going since him overtaking would have been pointless due to the width restriction. He piped down, meanwhile a cab behind that car decided he would overtake him as soon as there was room and went through the width restriction on the wrong side of the road. I was already through, on the right (left) side of the road when he came up alongside me pushing me into the kerb. I could see him shouting at me through the closed window. He was now brushing my bars with his cab and I was brushing the kerb with my pedals. There was a parked car coming up so I was doubly fucked. I slammed on the brakes and he swerved away to stop himself hitting the parked car, I slowed enough to get behind the cab and I got round to the driver's side. The driver had opened his door and was getting out, so I kept going right but he was now out the cab and blocking my way. I collided lightly with him and ended up on the floor still clipped in and tangled up with my bike, he was still standing. He then leaned down so he was right in my face, shouting and threatening to "lay in to me". I argued back but it wasn't very cohesive, it was mainly me questioning very loudly what the fuck he thought he was doing. He kept just threatening to beat me up, twice he stood up straight to get back in his cab but came back to shout in my face and threaten me some more. He eventually got back in his cab and tore off. All this time he had a woman with two kids in the back of the cab.

My girlfriend saw the whole thing obviously and shouted at him while he was threatening me. I had his number plate memorised straight away and I was going to file a report, but I thought fuck it, I'm ringing 999, hopefully they'll put out an APB(?) and maybe catch him. The operator was really helpful, straight away he said that because the guy had driven dangerously, and assaulted me with his vehicle and physically they'd try and get him on the road and they'd also send a police car round to my house since I lived so close to the incident.

The police officers turned up after about an hour, they apologised saying they had to deal with an incident that went on a bit longer than expected. They were really nice, one was a cyclist himself. They took the incident very seriously, took in depth statements from me and my girlfriend, and took photos of the injury to my arm. They told me that they have the details of the taxi from the registration number and they would be making an arrest. There was a bloke and woman, the bloke was the cyclist, and he was listing 5 or 6 different things that they can pin on him, and he was telling me he'd like to try and push for the worst ones. He was saying due to the number of 'crimes' committed in one incident he's going to push for prosecution with CPS so the guy will have to go to court, and that's just for the physical stuff. He will also be prosecuted for traffic offences committed separately.

Whether this all goes ahead waits to be seen, but they were very interested in following this through, he was even saying that he wants to go and arrest the guy personally and plug in the overtime for all the paperwork, rather than pass it on to the next crew.

Not checked the bike yet, but I made it known to them that I thought there was something wrong with the bike. We walked home from the incident so I have no idea if anything is majorly bent or anything. I really hope there isn't anything majorly wrong, I've only had this bike a week!

I'm glad the police were helpful for a change, this guy was a cunt.

I was riding down Tooley street yesterday at about 14.45 coming off London Bridge about to pass the London Bridge Station entrance (at the bottom of the incline). Experience has taught me that despite people waiting at the ped lights, folk will pretty much ignore the color on display and step out. As a result I now shout well in advance.

It looked like people were going to cross despite my green light so I slowed down my pedaling in advance and I shouted. They all looked right saw me and held back. I continue to pedal. Out of fucking nowhere this soft cunt has stepped out looking the wrong way sending me into the opposite lane causing me to go up about a foot off the ground and smash into a (thankfully stationery) truck. One of these cracks was my face, the other my hand.

On landing on the floor my initial instinct was blood all over my face but it was nose water. I lay on the floor badly winded for a min or two. Then I thought who is the bastard responsible for this? I look up and there are a lot of people just stood there looking at me. I ask who is responsible and nothing. I scrape myself up off the floor. WHO IS FUCKING RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!?!? WHO DID IT? I shouted repeatedly. HAVE YOU ALL JUST SEEN WHAT HAS HAPPENED AND YOU'VE LET THE PERSON GO WHILE YOU ALL STAND THERE JUST LOOKING AT ME, YOU STUPID FUNKING IDIOTS???
Eventully one lady stepped forward and said "it was him"
"Who? Show me, take me to him"

I catch up with what turns out to be a German late teen. I Grabbed him by the lapels and rag him around demanding to know where he's going, why he hasn't stopped, what the fuck is wrong with him.
He's saying my teacher and pointing down the road. A few people try to get involved and one guy says if I don't let him go he'll call the police.
"please do, mate. And while you're at fuck off or you'll get some too"

I'm now seething.

I go back to where my bike is still in the road and the in the truck driver (Eastern European) comes over and starts having a go at me demanding to know who is going to sort out his windscreen.
I said to him, "you saw everything, why are you asking me this? Go speak to the kid that caused it, you stupid fuck."

My bars aren't steering now so I'm even more pissed. I attempt to go lock up the bike when said driver starts grabbing my bike saying that I can't go anywhere.

"I'm locking MY bike up. Taking your fucking hands off."

He then gives me his ear piece telling me his boss want a chat. His boss then proceeds to have a go at me. I wanted to drop the ear piece down the cunting drain hole. The police turn up and I go, again, to lock my bike up then the female officer then starts grabbing me demanding to know where I'm going after I've told her I'm gonna lock it up. She gets a foul mouthed rant from me.

Eventually the lady that helped me earlier steps forward and asks why everyone is having a go at me when I was the victim, after all it's my face that is imprinted on the wind screen.
At this stage I was still spitting bit of glass out my mouth. Thankfully the paramedics came and offered me solace from this grim set of events.

I am and always have been a strong advocate of hitting pedestrians that step out on you in the situation that you have right of way. Reason being if you avoid them (as happened to me once) and crash they'll say it had nothing to do with them, not to mention the damage you could do to yourself because someone couldn't be arsed looking at all. The fact that I shouted in advance and almost everyone stepped back made this impossible to avoid because he was hidden behind everyone and was moving in the opposite direction meant he came from absolutely nowhere. Instinct made me do it.

The pigs reckoned there was no action that could have taken because he was German????? Maybe I'll go over there and cause chaos and tell them to fuck themselves cause I went to school in New Cross?
Who is liable for this because my one off headset is dead. My head tube may be fucked. Who is covering this?
Shrugs according to the the pigs. Anyone know where I can find this shrug person?

The driver neither the jaywalker once came to ask if I was ok. People seemed to want to offer protection to him over me. The Police attitude is 100% what I've become used to. But the public's overall uselessness? This has just reinforced my general hatred towards society. Had I been a svelte blonde would I have suffered this kind of treatment? AND SOME OF YOU WONDER WHY SOME OF MY PEOPLES HAVE "chip on their fucking shoulders?"

I was hit by a courier van that was pulling out of my office loading bay just as I was turning into our car park. He was going too fast, on the wrong side of the narrow backstreet due to a parked car. I came round the blind left hand corner (not quickly), saw him hurtling at me head on, so steered right to try to cross in front of him. But he was going too fast and broadsided me, knocking me hard onto my right hand side. I fractured my arm just below my elbow. There were witnesses, whose details I didn't get. He got out, and had a go at me, and I told him I thought I'd broken my arm, and turned to speak to a witness, and he took the opportunity to jump back in the car and sped off. Unfortunately it happened right outside my office under 2 CCTV cameras in front of a security guard after he'd just delivered a package to my firm, so my office security identified him within 24 hours and I can't really say anymore.

There were two police cars, about five gawkers, no actual witnesses, and I was moved along as the ambulance arrived. The man was lying on his back deadly still with his eyes closed.

Rider down, this morning 9.30ish am on the London Bridge exit of the E&C Roundabout.
Paramedics were working on him when I went past, couldn't see a bike - but from what I could see of him and his clothing, he could have been a motorcyclist.

Hope all concerned are ok.

Ride safe everyone.
