Just seen this on Essex Road. Locked to the outside of the railings on the corner of Essex Rd and New North Rd. (outside Japanese restaurant).
Looking at it, must've been run over by a lorry or something. It's locked up so I presume the owner is OK.
Been dragged along it seems. Check the frame!
Anyone heard anything? It's completely FUBAR!
I hope nobody was injured.

Yeah that was my first thoughts but the damage is beyond the traditional Brick Lane 'locked to my window' damage.
If someone did fcuk it up whilst locked there then they probably used a grinder and sledge hammer.
It would've been easier to cut the lock and nick it.
The area is bad though. I reckon Angel is worse than Brick Lane. I always see kids on amazing £600+ mountain bikes which are a bit too big for 'em! They end up at Brick Lane though...

NO BRAKES!!!!.....erm...

True. There's nothing that can be saved! Maybe a couple of nuts and bolts. Headset if desperate. Worst case I've seen.
It's crushed. I'd like to know what and when it happened. Someone must know...

+1 not really worried about the salvage. That feels a bit like vultures circling.

Hope whoever's bike that is was well away from it while all that damage was being done.

Ride safe peeps.

Agreed. Save the piss taking when it is clear the riders is ok and we wind out all is well.

funny (peculiar, not ha ha) - whenever I've fallen off I think to myself, I'll heal up but if the bike's damaged I'll be really annoyed, but then again people don't heal up so well if you apply the kind of forces that could do that to a bike..

Looks like it happened whilst locked there. My money is on a flatbed swinging around the corner and flattening the bike against the fence and shredding the bike.

maybe, as you can see the bent part on the railing. but where is the left crank? why is the seat in front of the bike?

Hmmm. The lock is too perfect too. And no-one would go back and slap a new £80 lock on it.

And the tubing... it's flat, and I doubt a trailer would flatten that rear triangle quite like that.

OK, Changing my mind... the money is on a truck driving over it, flattening it and dragging it along before the bike was dug out.

Sounds most likely.

For the record, as previously alluded to on this thread, the estates round there are home to some particularly nasty people. Avoid using the cycle routes round the back, don't dawdle if you do venture off the main drag, and be aware that some of the local 8-yr-olds are quite happy to gang up on you and leave your face/body as FUBAR as that bike...

At least the NF types round there seem to have sunk back into the shadows. Same goes for Old Street.

@Todd - I wouldn't call it the Angel though. It's strictly Essex Rd aka Packington/Popham territory.

The locations are about 1.5 miles out.

I'm really hoping this was an accident that happened to a bike, not to a person.

Its most likely been scraped under a vehicle on the road. Too much damage to be hit by a trailer whilst chained up, and that kerb bollard would have done its job. Lock looks untouched, so must have been locked post-accident. Lets hope the riders okay. Having no front brake wont help any claims.

That bike has been under a vehicle.

Looks like the front wheel was run over whilst pointed at right angles to the bike. I guess you have to hope that who ever it was that was on it (IYSWIM) wasn't on it or near it when it got mashed.

True.
It get's much quieter up that end and is a different area. Crime seems to spread all the way up to Angel though.
Also..barnsbury (liverpool road) and surrounding areas are as equally dangerous...though there's some amazing houses £££ around too.
I've seen gangs carrying tools especially for bike theft. Seen a white van (stopped by police) full of bikes! Kids running down the road with saddle and a wheel...
Nuts!

lol. Essex Road, what a laugh! I had a group of about 15 little shits chasing after me a year or so ago. They came riding towards me on the wrong side of the road. One of them was actually wheeling ride at me. I swerved past them called them all a bunch of little cnuts. Next thing I knew. Had a whole posse chasing me home down Englefield Road. Lucky I'm quick otherwise I would have been in serious shit. Yep best to watch out round there.
