Nope, they look shit because they're screen-shotted out of a preview of the 2008 Specialized Catalogue, and that's a .pdf.

The thread on BF has a link to the catalogue, and you'll see that yup they're coming.

Available after November 2007 (at the earliest), so just in time for Christmas.

On another note: Didn't Giant have a fixie available much the same as the Langster about 2-3 years ago? Hmm.. Maybe I'm thinking of an SS MTB?

Do like photoben and paint it. Then it doesn't look like everyone else's Langster. Simple.

they were probably some 20 something graphic designers with a manga fetish and a membership card for the ICA. or washed up ex-messengers or perhaps students?

The fact they've come up with these 6 is clearly in response to the current backlash against Langsters - "Too boring, not individual, bought by unimaginative chumps who want to pose outside coffee shops" etc.
So in that respect, the point has been missed completely, and will net the owners of these new "off-the-peg-bespoke-fixed-gear" bikes even less respect from the more purist fixed owners/community than the current ones out there.
But Specialized themselves will be fully aware of all of this - I don't think they particularly care who buys them or how they're used. The bikes will shift like hot cakes and they'll make a fat load of money out of it, all off the back of the fact that it's currently cool to pretend to be a courier.

Still, with all these new ones floating around, it might reduce some of my own Langster shame - "that's right - I'm dead old skool, me - straight outta 2005, this one..."

I'll see how I go. I'm taking pedals and a pedal spanner as well as multitool for saddle height tweaking. Hopefully I don't forget my spuds!

I didn't really want to ride it back if it's raining or getting dark but as it'll be peak hour, geting it on a train ain't gonna happen anyway so yeah, I'll probably be riding it home.

I did the same with the Raleigh. First fixed ride in London and first time on a fix in 2 years and I had to ride it from East to West London. Easier than I thought in the end, except for a slipping seatpost.
